Sr Systems Analyst - SAP

RWEAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

The Sr Systems Analyst I – SAP serves as the organization's primary technical and functional expert for SAP, owning the systems, processes, and governance that keep RWE America’s Plant Maintenance (PM), Materials Management (MM), and related enterprise functions running accurately and in compliance with RWE’s centralized SAP governance. This role leads the full lifecycle of SAP enhancements, upgrades, and integrations — from requirements gathering through design, testing, and deployment — while also owning several compliance-critical processes independently. The position requires the ability to translate ambiguous, cross-functional business needs into precise technical solutions, exercise sound independent judgment on financial and security-sensitive processes, and operate with minimal oversight in a fast-paced, evolving systems landscape.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience supporting or administering SAP, with hands-on depth in Plant Maintenance (PM) and Materials Management (MM) modules required
  • Demonstrated experience owning or supporting SAP governance processes such as ChaRM, Change Advisory Board (CAB) participation, or Master Data Governance (MDG)
  • Experience supporting SAP access management/security processes (e.g., GRC, emergency access/FireFighter roles) strongly preferred
  • Experience operating within a multi-entity or multi-op-co business structure, where standard SAP configurations require additional layers of business logic, is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, diagnose root cause across interconnected systems, and translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of financial/reporting concepts sufficient to investigate P&L-impacting data discrepancies in partnership with Finance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing process documentation, functional specifications, and stakeholder-facing materials
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight, exercising sound judgment on compliance- and finance-sensitive processes
  • Experience mentoring or informally leading junior team members
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum ways of working, including sprint planning and backlog management

Nice To Haves

  • SAP certification(s) in relevant modules (PM, MM, or related)
  • Experience with test management tooling and with collaboration/documentation platforms such as Confluence and Airtable
  • Exposure to data extraction or analytics initiatives supporting AI/ML-driven business tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle of SAP enhancement, upgrade, and integration projects — from requirements gathering through design, build, testing, and deployment — coordinating across technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with how the business actually operates, not just standard SAP configuration
  • Own the SAP Change Request Management (ChaRM) process end-to-end, including submission of change requests across integration services, PM/MM WRICEF objects, S/4 technical requests, and incidents/defects, and serve as Change Advisory Board (CAB) approver, applying risk analysis to protect system stability during releases
  • Lead test management for regression and upgrade cycles — including test case creation, execution, and defect tracking — to verify that major releases meet reliability, performance, and compliance requirements before go-live, requiring rigorous attention to downstream system impact
  • Translate high-level, often ambiguous business objectives from stakeholders across multiple operating companies into detailed functional specifications, process diagrams, and technical documentation, requiring strong analytical judgment to reconcile standard SAP design with actual business operating models
  • Serve as technical lead for Master Data Governance (MDG) on Material Master data, approving governance requests and partnering in recurring sessions with operating company stakeholders on new data requirements, balancing data integrity against operational flexibility
  • Own SAP access governance, including access request/approval workflows within GRC and risk ownership of FireFighter emergency access roles, applying compliance judgment to safeguard system security and audit readiness
  • Provide the highest level (L3) of technical troubleshooting for Plant Maintenance and Materials Management, resolving complex issues such as price variances, subcontracting discrepancies, serialization/equipment inconsistencies, and integration/API failures, requiring root-cause diagnostic reasoning across interconnected systems and data
  • Develop and maintain advanced system documentation, process diagrams, and technical standards to reduce reliance on undocumented institutional knowledge and support a more turnkey, repeatable approach to SAP delivery. Develop and deliver training on process changes
