About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator in our Herndon, VA or Aurora, CO office in support of the EMMETT program, a next-gen Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system- an enterprise capability that catalogs resident space objects (RSOs), identifies RSOs of interest, and delivers timely data to ground operators. As part of the team you will support an exciting program which involves design, development, test, and deployment of a broad and complex system in an Agile construct to contribute to mission success for a variety of stakeholders. Requirements

  • Minimum of TS clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to pass a polygraph within 30 days of employment or at customers request- contract requires TS/SCI with poly. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of study applicable to the position with 8+ years of relevant experience. 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in a previous System Administration role.
  • Experience in system installation, patching and testing, and system configuration of networked services, file systems, basic scripting and authentication experience
  • Operating System administration skills for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x and later to include building systems up from bare metal, performing software package installation, operating system and application troubleshooting, and implementing security hardening
  • Apply patches, updates, and hotfixes using Red Hat Satellite, YUM, or DNF
  • Experience ensuring consistent software versions across environments and systems are current
  • Experience diagnosing / resolving system issues, analyze system logs using journalctl, dmesg, or /var/log
  • Direct experience working in Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Maintain detailed system documentation in Confluence, Git or other similar tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with virtualization/cloud-based technologies (e.g. OpenStack, Citrix XenServer Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and/or VMWare), Docker Containers, Ansible, and/or Heat templates
  • Manage load balancing and failover systems

Responsibilities

  • Support our cloud-based classified environment, ensuring the uptime of infrastructure
  • Perform daily system monitoring and monthly patching as part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team
  • Manage operating system configurations, system documentation, performance tuning, software installations and updates, system hardening, and storage allocation
  • Help monitor and maintain mission-critical, highly available, high-performance networked systems in a team-oriented environment
  • Work closely with other engineering teams to improve our platforms and eliminate complexity from architecture and processes
  • Monitor and address tenant discrepancy reports
  • Monitor and manage system resources to maintain efficiency
