The Opportunity We are looking for versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers to help build Intelligent Commerce platforms at Visa. As a Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a lean, multi‑functional engineering team inventing, designing, building, and operating software products that power next‑generation commerce experiences at global scale. You will work on systems that enable AI‑driven, agent‑based commerce, spanning merchant experiences, backend services, APIs, and intelligent workflows. While building components of Visa’s payment and commerce platforms, you will see your work directly shaping the future of digital transactions and intelligent buying experiences worldwide.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience

Nice To Haves

  • 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience building and operating full‑stack, production‑grade services
  • Exposure to AI, intelligent systems, or platform‑oriented products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate full‑stack solutions that power Intelligent Commerce use cases and serve global customers at scale
  • Develop backend services and APIs using Java and/or Python, Spring, REST, and JSON, with a strong focus on scalability, security, and performance
  • Build modern, responsive frontend applications using React or Angular with contemporary JavaScript/TypeScript practices
  • Own one or more microservices end‑to‑end, including system design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support
  • Work with relational and NoSQL data stores such as Oracle, SQL Server, and MongoDB to support diverse transaction and commerce workflows
  • Design and implement distributed, low‑latency, and highly available systems using microservices and open‑standard technologies
  • Apply DevOps and quality‑first practices, including Git‑based workflows, Maven/Gradle builds, Jenkins‑driven CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and TDD
  • Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes, or quickly learn these technologies as part of day‑to‑day development
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) as a core part of the development workflow to accelerate delivery and improve code quality
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Architecture, and Platform teams in lean agile squads to deliver high‑quality, production‑ready solutions
  • Continuously improve systems through debugging, performance tuning, operational insights, and proactive ownership
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, and learning, mentoring teammates and sharing best practices
  • Demonstrate strong technical working knowledge to understand product and system requirements
  • Contribute to solution design and implementation across frontend, backend, and service layers with minimal guidance
  • Apply standard engineering practices and design patterns to develop maintainable, testable, and scalable software
  • Leverage modern programming languages, frameworks, and tools to write high‑quality code that meets functional and non‑functional requirements
  • Collaborate across teams to pilot and adopt new technologies that enhance Intelligent Commerce experiences
  • Analyze and debug issues, validate assumptions, and apply appropriate tools to resolve problems efficiently
  • Participate in CI/CD practices including automated testing, code quality checks, and production deployments
