Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems

SIG SAUER Careers•Exeter, NH
•Onsite

About The Position

SIG SAUER, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of firearms, electro-optics, ammunition, and related products. The Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems, will focus on maintaining and improving existing electromechanical products to ensure consistent quality, performance, and on-time delivery. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving complex production issues, implementing design enhancements, and coordinating changes with various teams. The engineer will conduct root cause analysis, lead value engineering initiatives, and optimize manufacturing processes. They will manage engineering changes using CAD and PLM systems, ensuring compliance with standards. As a senior member, they will mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on electromechanical platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering
  • 7–10 years in sustaining or production engineering
  • Strong electromechanical systems experience (mechanical assemblies, PCBAs, wiring, embedded hardware)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve production and field issues across mechanical and electrical domains
  • Expert in SOLIDWORKS
  • Working knowledge of Altium Designer for PCBA support and review
  • Hands-on experience with electrical debugging tools (multimeter, oscilloscope) and hardware bring-up
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems and basic programming (C or similar) for validation and troubleshooting
  • Expert in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack analysis for complex assemblies
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for machined, molded, stamped parts and PCBAs, including DFM/DFT
  • Experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers to resolve issues and improve yield and reliability
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, including mentoring junior engineers and driving cross-functional efforts
  • Good working knowledge of ESD control procedures including the proper use of an Electrostatic Protected Area (EPA)

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in existing electromechanical systems, spanning mechanical components, PCBAs, and system-level interactions in production and field environments.
  • Implement engineering changes to both mechanical and electrical designs (CAD models, drawings, PCBAs), ensuring compatibility with existing product architecture and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis on failures using structured methodologies, addressing issues related to mechanical fit, tolerance stack-ups, electrical performance, and system integration.
  • Manage engineering changes through PLM systems (e.g., Agile PLM), maintaining accurate documentation, revision control, and traceability.
  • Analyze test data, field returns, and production failures to identify trends and drive corrective actions across both mechanical and electrical domains.
  • Develop and execute validation testing to confirm effectiveness of design changes, including functional, durability, and environmental testing of integrated systems.
  • Support manufacturing and contract suppliers by resolving production issues related to assembly, wiring, PCBAs, and mechanical interfaces, ensuring minimal disruption to output.
  • Incorporate DFM/DFT feedback from vendors to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product reliability across electromechanical assemblies.
  • Evaluate and optimize tolerance stack-ups and mechanical interfaces to ensure proper fit, alignment, and long-term durability of assemblies.
  • Perform circuit-level analysis and simulation where needed to support electrical troubleshooting and design updates.
  • Lead disposition of non-conforming materials, defining rework or corrective actions that consider both mechanical and electrical impacts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost reduction, and production yield across complete systems, not just individual components.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across both mechanical and electrical problem-solving.
  • Lead PPI (Product and Process improvement) efforts.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities, including requests for maintenance when needed for both personal space and multi-use department spaces.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
