About The Position

The Sr Supplier Quality Engineer ensures that externally sourced Veeder-Root materials and products are manufactured according to applicable codes and standards. The role covers supplier qualification, source inspections, specification comparisons, manufacturability reviews for new designs, collaboration with suppliers and company Engineering and Operations personnel, evaluation of item suitability and availability for delivery, and coordination of nonconforming-item dispositions. The position leads supplier quality improvement and manufacturing productivity efforts, including audits, corrective actions, root-cause analysis, continuous improvement workshops, and review of product submission packages. It also partners with Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, customers, and suppliers to improve material quality, process capability, delivery, and productivity.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Engineering; Mechanical, Industrial, Quality, or a related field is preferred.
At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and simply.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cooperate within a team.
Strong understanding of statistical process control techniques and process capability assessment, including Cpk and Ppk.
Experience reviewing, approving, and creating improvement plans for product submission packages, including PPAP, ISIR, and FAI.
Ability to identify true root causes and appropriate short- and long-term countermeasures.
Strong people, communication, and analytical skills, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Ability to coach and lead individuals and teams.
Flexibility to work overtime and different shifts, and to travel on short notice.
Ability to work without close supervision.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and methods.
Understanding of quality tools and metrics.

Responsibilities

Lead teams and team members in resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity.
Participate in and lead continuous improvement workshops (kaizens) to improve quality, delivery, and productivity at supplier locations and the Veeder-Root manufacturing facility.
Perform manufacturing process audits at external supplier locations; issue supplier corrective actions and follow up on their completion; conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Review, approve, and create improvement plans for product submission packages, including PPAP and FAI.
Ensure customer complaints caused by raw materials are addressed promptly, and that appropriate root-cause corrective actions are provided to customers and implemented in the process.
Maintain positive working relationships with customers and suppliers.
Evaluate materials and the processes and systems used to produce them to assess capability; work with Supply Chain and Operations on continual improvement of raw-material process capability and consistency.
Assist Procurement with supplier selection, development, and risk.
Administer and lead supplier quality and manufacturing audits.
Develop a supplier quality improvement program.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Strategic Sourcing Leader.
