About The Position

The T&S Projects & Standards Team is responsible for maintaining and developing design standards and engineering practices that ensure standardized, safe, and cost-effective substation designs. This position is responsible for a specific class of T&S Design Standards including module/template drawings, material specifications, construction specifications (S-Sheets), Job Processes (JPBs), and Engineering Practices (EPBs) for substation voltages of 13kV, 34kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV. This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert and design authority for substation design and engineering within T&S, with a focus on High Voltage/Physical Design and Substation Equipment. This consists of various responsibilities including reviewing, updating, and facilitating the development of T&S design and engineering standards, working closely with the various T&S groups to ensure effective standard implementation. This position also collaborates with the other Exelon companies and is involved in creating, updating, and applying internal/industry design standards and technology in a specialized area of expertise. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3)
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise.
  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience (1) (3) (See Note 3. Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise.
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Minimum of three related career experiences (4) (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department) OR Lead Member of a recognized industry committee OR Professional Engineer's License (2), advanced technical degree, MBA or Project Management Certification (1) Master's Degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (2) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. (3) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (4) Career related experiences is defined as changes in technical job responsibilities and does not have to include a change in department.
  • Note: Items (1) and (3) are mutually inclusive, whereby the maximum experience requirement reduction is one (1) year (e.g., in the case of an employee with both a Master’s degree in Engineering AND a PE license, the minimum experience requirement would be reduced by one (1) year).

  • Experience with applying and/or developing standardized drawings, documents, etc. related to substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for a specific class of T&S Design Standards including module/template drawings, material specifications, construction specifications (S-Sheets), Job Processes (JPBs), and Engineering Practices (EPBs) for substation voltages of 13kV, 34kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV.
  • Point of Contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.
  • Works with Vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
  • Collaborates with Equipment Specialists, Protection & Control Engineering, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Capacity Planning, Transmission Reinforcement, Substation Operations & Maintenance, Relay Testing other field groups, etc. to set the design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability of standards.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently and may leading multi-discipline teams.
  • Provides recommendations to management and implements action plans to improve reliability.
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
  • Interface with applicable industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc. to introduce new design improvements and materials.
  • Investigate common point of failure modes and trends for the purpose of material or design standard improvements as well as supporting the analysis of extent of condition.
