Sr. Staff NPI Manufacturing Engineer

Halo Industries, Inc.•Santa Clara, CA
•$150,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Halo Industries is hiring a Sr. Staff NPI Manufacturing Engineer to provide strategic and technical leadership as the company scales its proprietary capital equipment platform. The role architects the transition of complex, multidisciplinary production machinery from R&D into full-scale manufacturing, connecting design, operations, supply chain, and quality. The engineer leads cross-functional launch strategies, establishes manufacturing methodologies, mentors engineers, and guides New Product Introductions in alignment with business milestones. The position leads design-for-excellence architecture reviews and partners with R&D leadership and chief scientists to turn system performance criteria into scalable equipment designs. It also directs manufacturing, assembly, and test process development; establishes test infrastructure and operational frameworks; and coordinates capabilities with contract manufacturers and supply-chain partners. The engineer owns NPI roadmaps and pilot manufacturing execution, including schedules, resources, design transfer, and process validation. The role also leads systemic technical problem-solving and continuous improvement, while developing engineering talent and strengthening NPI practices across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline; a master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive, hands-on NPI and manufacturing engineering experience in capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, optical systems, or high-complexity medical device manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading full-lifecycle NPI launches of multidisciplinary electromechanical systems from concept through volume production.
  • Expert troubleshooting capabilities across complex hardware, optics, robotics, pneumatics, and embedded control systems.
  • Mastery of formal root-cause methodologies, including 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and FMEA, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Deep experience driving PLM, QMS, and ERP architecture and design-control workflows.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence executive stakeholders, align suppliers, and translate technical complexity into actionable business decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks CAD, NetSuite ERP/MRP, and Arena PLM/QMS.
  • Deep knowledge of precision machining, opto-mechanical alignment, complex harness integration, vacuum system assembly, and automated test environments.
  • PMP, PE, or Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead early-stage design architecture reviews and drive DFM, DFA, DFR, DFT, and DFS strategies to address manufacturing, quality, and supply-chain risks before pilot launch.
  • Partner with R&D leadership and chief scientists to translate system performance criteria into scalable, manufacturable equipment designs.
  • Oversee engineering deliverables, including BOM structure, CAD data integrity, and engineering change control across PLM systems.
  • Develop, qualify, and deploy manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes for internal production lines and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Architect test stands, custom tooling, and automated fixtures for precision equipment assembly and functional verification.
  • Create manufacturing operational frameworks, technical documentation standards, and qualification protocols for production scaling.
  • Align and direct Tier-1 contract manufacturers and supply-chain partners in establishing build and test capabilities for complex systems.
  • Own NPI roadmaps, critical-path schedules, resource allocation, design-transfer deliverables, prototype builds, and pilot manufacturing programs.
  • Establish and execute process validation frameworks (IQ/OQ/PQ), including line-yield, cycle-time, and capacity targets.
  • Champion PLM and QMS platform strategies to streamline workflows, enforce regulatory compliance, and improve design-to-factory execution.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in resolving high-impact technical issues using root-cause analysis frameworks.
  • Drive Lean and Six Sigma continuous-improvement strategies to improve yield, shorten build cycles, and optimize total cost of goods sold.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and promote high technical standards and effective NPI practices.
