Sr/Staff Mobile Engineer (React Native)

FYTSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Our client is an AI-driven platform that makes healthcare more accessible by connecting patients to the right providers, offering transparent pricing, and simplifying medication management. We're looking for a Senior/Staff React Native Engineer to join a high-growth health tech company, where a small, elite team powers a large-scale platform serving hundreds of thousands of patients. You'll own the mobile applications that serve as the primary daily touchpoint for patients and providers — architecting offline-first data synchronization, deep native health integrations, and a unified cross-platform experience via Expo. If you're drawn to mobile product problems with real domain complexity, absolute autonomy, and work that directly shapes how patients track biometrics, communicate with their care teams, and manage complex medication protocols, this is the role.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of frontend engineering experience with deep, specialized focus on React Native and Expo — having built, shipped, and maintained complex, data-heavy mobile applications in production.
  • Expo and mobile infrastructure expert.
  • Know how to manage EAS builds, integrate complex native modules like HealthKit and Health Connect without ejecting, and navigate the review guidelines of both the App Store and Google Play.
  • Strong command of mobile state and performance — preventing UI thread blocking, optimizing list rendering for large datasets, and orchestrating complex async data fetching securely.
  • Full lifecycle ownership: Managing CI/CD, monitoring crash rates via tools like Sentry, and owning your app's reliability in production is a core part of how you work.
  • AI has meaningfully changed how you work. You actively use frontier agentic tools to build faster, and you can speak concretely about how they've shifted your workflow — while maintaining the technical rigor to audit and own everything they produce.
  • Low-ego, high-standards, and communicate well across functions.
  • Comfortable working where engineering decisions are shaped by compliance, regulation, and patient safety.
  • Excited to work in-person five days a week in San Francisco.
  • For Staff-level candidates: You have a track record of setting technical direction, operating in ambiguity, and measurably growing the engineers around you.

Nice To Haves

  • Native iOS or Android experience is a strong plus, but React Native mastery and product sense come first.

Responsibilities

  • Build dynamic, high-performance mobile tools for patients and providers — including deep integrations with Apple HealthKit and Google Health Connect for real-time biometric data, and secure, low-friction messaging systems connecting patients to their care teams.
  • Leverage the full Expo ecosystem as a product advantage: managing build pipelines via EAS, configuring custom native modules through Config Plugins, and shipping over-the-air updates to keep patients on the latest clinical tools without app store delays.
  • Architect offline-first data synchronization and aggressive local caching so the app works reliably in real-world conditions — spotty connections, offline states, and all.
  • Obsess over mobile UX details that make an app feel genuinely premium: frame rates, navigation transitions, keyboard behaviors, and accessibility standards that serve a diverse patient population.
  • Integrate AI capabilities directly into mobile interfaces to automate clinical operations and streamline patient support, while using agentic tools to accelerate your own development.
  • Set the standard for mobile architecture, establish code reuse patterns across web and mobile clients, and raise the bar through rigorous code review and mobile testing practices.
