About The Position

L3Harris is looking for a Buyer to join its Procurement team in its Clifton, NJ location. Duties include analyzing and interpreting engineering drawings/schematics to understand procurement and manufacturing requirements, sourcing and purchasing machinery, equipment, tools, raw material, packaging materials, parts, services and/or supplies necessary for operation of an organization. The role involves compiling and analyzing statistical data to determine feasibility of buying products and establishing price objectives, keeping informed on price trends and manufacturing processes, and conferring with suppliers to determine factors affecting prices and establish the lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules. Responsibilities also include reviewing proposals, negotiating prices, selecting or recommending suppliers, analyzing trends, following up on orders placed, verifying delivery, approving payment, and maintaining necessary records. The role may involve preparing bid packages, and requires frequent internal company and external contacts, representing the organization on specific projects. Additional duties include preparing proposal requests consistent with contract requirements, developing new sources of supply based on quality, delivery, and pricing, soliciting and awarding purchase orders, and participating in departmental and company-wide process improvements and lean initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business or a related field.
  • 3+ years of purchasing, supply chain, or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years’ experience in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and MRP system skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills including use of pivot tables, lookup tables, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Supply Chain principles and concepts in defense contracting.
  • Knowledge in the procurement processes of military grade products.
  • Knowledge of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Acquisition Regulations (DFAR).
  • Experience purchasing electronics, custom metal fabricated parts, cable and wiring harnesses, and / or complex electrical components and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Solicit and award purchase orders consistent with the requirements of the contract.
  • Participate and contribute to departmental and company-wide process improvements and lean initiatives.
