Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Materials Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in packaging development, packaging engineering, sustainability, or related field.
  • Experience within cosmetics, skincare, personal care, pharmaceutical, food, or consumer packaged goods preferred.
  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with global packaging regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of recyclable, refillable, reusable, compostable, and PCR packaging systems.
  • Knowledge of plastics, glass, aluminum, paperboard, and flexible packaging materials.
  • Experience managing sustainability data and regulatory documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ISTA, ASTM) is a plus.
  • Experience with Airtable, ERP, or sustainability reporting software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate sustainability initiatives for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging across all product categories.
  • Research and evaluate sustainable packaging materials, including PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled), bio-based, recyclable, refillable, and compostable solutions.
  • Track packaging sustainability metrics, including recycled content, recyclability, material reduction, carbon footprint, and packaging weight.
  • Maintain sustainability databases and packaging material documentation.
  • Support compliance with global packaging regulations including: Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), California SB54, REACH, Proposition 65, and Heavy Metals requirements.
  • Collect and organize supplier sustainability documentation, certifications, and material declarations.
  • Assist Packaging Development Engineers with sustainability assessments during new product development.
  • Coordinate sustainability testing and validation of new packaging materials.
  • Support Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) projects and environmental impact evaluations.
  • Develop sustainability scorecards and dashboards for packaging projects.
  • Prepare sustainability reports for internal leadership and external regulatory reporting.
  • Partner with suppliers to identify cost-effective sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive sustainable packaging innovations.
  • Support packaging artwork updates related to sustainability claims, recycling instructions, and environmental labeling.
  • Participate in cross-functional product development meetings to represent packaging sustainability objectives.
  • Maintain sustainability SOPs, work instructions, and documentation.
