About The Position

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, provides advertising platforms for publishers, advertisers, and media buyers. The Sr Software Engineer leads the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-impact software systems and serves as a technical leader who drives architectural decisions, mentors engineers, and influences engineering practices across teams. The role applies cloud engineering principles and architectural patterns to build resilient, scalable services, while collaborating with product development, architecture, project management, compliance, SRE, QA, and end-users to align technical solutions with business outcomes. The engineer leads the technical design and delivery of services and data pipelines for audience segment data, taxonomy, metadata, and related activation artifacts. The role owns ingestion solutions from source onboarding through production operation, optimizes Snowflake systems for high-volume audience data, and ensures that ingestion systems meet service-level objectives for availability, latency, freshness, throughput, accuracy, and recovery. It also contributes to architectural and platform decisions, establishes engineering and test-automation practices, and mentors junior and mid-level engineers.

  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with data platforms such as Aerospike, Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, Presto, and EMR.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively across teams and regions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and delivery of scalable services and data pipelines for audience segment data, taxonomy, metadata, and related activation artifacts.
  • Apply cloud-platform expertise and promote automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and cloud-native development practices.
  • Own ingestion solutions from source onboarding through production operation, including validation, normalization, transformation, deduplication, segment replacement, add/remove processing, and downstream publication.
  • Use multiple programming languages and platforms, and lead by example in modern build, containerization, and database technologies.
  • Design and optimize Snowflake data models, warehouses, queries, tasks, streams, secure data-sharing patterns, and workload-isolation strategies for high-volume audience datasets.
  • Deliver end-to-end solutions aligned with business problems, FreeWheel’s strategic objectives, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to “buy vs. build vs. broker” evaluations, architectural reviews, and platform-level decisions.
  • Engineer ingestion systems to meet service-level objectives for data availability, processing latency, freshness, throughput, accuracy, and recovery.
  • Design and develop robust, scalable, highly available software systems while balancing delivery needs with long-term maintainability.
  • Establish test-automation standards and design unit and integration test suites to improve reliability and reduce escaped defects.
  • Drive adherence to and evolution of engineering best practices, design patterns, code quality standards, and review processes.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and professional-development support.
