About The Position

This role represents senior technical leadership within the engineering organization, focused on operating in complex, distributed environments and ensuring platforms are built with a high standard of correctness, reliability, and operational excellence. The Staff Engineer will partner closely with the CTO and senior engineering leaders to define architectural direction, establish integration patterns and standards, and deliver production-grade systems that safely support future growth and change.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience working in a software development capacity.
  • Experience in the medical field – terminology and processes.
  • Experience with HIPAA Security.
  • Deep experience building and operating distributed systems in production
  • Strong proficiency in Elixir (or deep expertise in another functional or concurrent language with the ability to ramp quickly)
  • Expertise with asynchronous messaging, event-driven architectures, and system integration patterns
  • Strong understanding of fault tolerance, concurrency, and state management
  • Experience designing systems intended to be used by other engineering teams as a platform
  • Comfort working in environments with legacy systems, imperfect data, and evolving requirements
  • Proven ability to reason about complex systems and make pragmatic tradeoffs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BEAM-based systems (Elixir/Erlang/OTP) at scale
  • Familiarity with healthcare, regulated environments, or other high-reliability domains
  • Experience designing migration and strangler patterns for large systems
  • Background in observability tooling and production incident response
  • Track record of influencing architecture without relying on formal authority

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own a fault-tolerant integration platform that enables asynchronous communication and loose coupling across enterprise systems.
  • Establish and maintain core infrastructure that allows applications and components to be incrementally modernized or replaced without disrupting the broader ecosystem.
  • Develop and steward shared services and libraries that make reliability, observability, and resilience default capabilities across all platforms.
  • Define and enforce clear system boundaries and interface contracts that support long-lived platforms, safe evolution, and continuous change.
