About The Position

Cox Fleet is hiring a Sr. Shop Diesel Technician to support the company's future growth. This role is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics. The Sr. Shop Diesel Technician is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by lower-level technicians and is expected to comply with all company policies and achieve high performance metrics. The company is looking for individuals seeking a stable and long-term work environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
Successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
Possess a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration, or be able to pass a DOT physical.
Be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
Hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, which may include performing repetitive tasks.
Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
Ability to accurately judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or the distance between an object and the observer.
Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Responsibilities

Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics.
Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs.
Comply with all company policies and achieve high-level performance metrics.
Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
Independently determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assisting in cleanup of tools, parts, and equipment at the end of each day.
Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties, working with and evaluating technical information.
Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments on prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep commitments; behave consistently, keep sensitive information confidential, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a shop environment.
Occasionally travel and perform work at customer locations.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using a company-issued device and/or Karmak application, including uploading pictures.
Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Participate in and complete all company-required safety training.
Maintain Shop-assigned service trucks, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments like handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Assist Shop Diesel Technician I with diagnostics.
Support Shop Diesel Technician I/II in obtaining correct parts for each job.
Advise Shop Diesel Technicians I & II on technical issues.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations.
Assist Shop Diesel Technician I/II with diagnostics.
Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs for Shop Diesel Technicians I/II.
