About The Position

The Senior Setup Technician tests, analyzes, and adjusts electro-mechanical devices such as timers, mechanical/solid state relays, solenoid valves, and electrically activated regulators. This role involves providing training to new employees, collaborating with management on complex technical problems, performing calibration, modifying equipment, troubleshooting machinery and control systems, and testing performance of integrated systems. The technician will use electrical meters and hand/power tools for fabrication and repair, assemble and test electrical components, and assist with preventive maintenance. Responsibilities also include understanding and troubleshooting low and high voltage electrical circuits, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, PLC, and servo motors. Travel to other facilities and vendors may be required. The role also emphasizes safety compliance, product safety, quality, and good housekeeping practices.

Requirements

High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)
5-8 years of thermoforming experience
Technical background including technical school or previous technician experience
Ability to communicate on a one-on-one basis and in group situations
Ability to understand instructions and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Ability to motivate and lead others
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
Ability to troubleshoot problems
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to use multimeters, power tools, drill press, table saw, and welder
Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air-operated machinery
Mechanical and plumbing skills required
Knowledge of thermoforming equipment required (Lyles, Sencorps, GNs, and OMG)
Must possess basic understanding of high voltage electrical theory
Must be computer literate

Nice To Haves

A college degree in manufacturing is a plus
Experience in Statistical process control (SPC) is a plus
Forklift driving experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Provide training to new employees in electro-mechanical work.
Work with technical and process engineering managers to prioritize and execute directives for complex technical problems.
Perform calibration activities to ensure compliance with industry codes.
Modify and adjust complex process equipment and instruments.
Troubleshoot complex problems associated with electro-mechanical machinery using OEM recommended procedures.
Diagnose and resolve issues with complex control systems with OEM thermoforming machines.
Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment.
Use electrical meters in troubleshooting and analyzing machine problems.
Use hand and power tools to fabricate machine parts necessary to maintain and update machinery.
Assemble wires, insulation, and electrical components, such as timing devices, relays, solenoids, and regulators.
Install electrical assemblies and hardware in housing.
Test assembled equipment for circuit continuity and operational reliability.
Analyze test results and repair or adjust equipment accordingly.
Record test results and write reports on fabrication techniques used.
Assist setup mechanics and technicians in equipment repairs/setups and lead preventive maintenance activities related to machine reliability.
Assist in training of Setup Mechanics/Technicians.
Understand and troubleshoot low and high voltage electrical circuits and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
Perform and document preventive maintenance on production and production support equipment.
Work with production automation equipment like robots, palletizers, case erectors, and high-speed jet printers.
Understand and troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controls) and Servo motors and drives.
Travel to Inline Plastics' facilities to assist with technical issues when needed, sometimes with minimal notice.
Travel to vendors for qualification of new equipment.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
Comply with EHS Policy and applicable regulatory and company EHS rules and requirements.
Promptly report any unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns to supervision.
Resolve potential hazards swiftly to ensure a safe work environment.
Attend scheduled EHS trainings.
Actively assist the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals.
Identify areas for improvement in EHS practices and recommend enhancements.
Demonstrate safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.
Follow FDA GMP’s regarding food contact packaging.
Practice good housekeeping, including maintaining a clutter-free work area and general cleaning.
Follow product safety standards, IPC product defense standards, and comply with all SQF requirements.
