Sr SDET

Fiserv•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

Fiserv is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help Clover increase automated test coverage and improve its automation frameworks. The role focuses primarily on automating test scenarios for Android applications using Java and UI Automator. The successful candidate will apply engineering practices to quality assurance, identify testing gaps, design solutions, and build and maintain automation systems that support high-quality, reliable software releases. The SDET will collaborate with manual QA, development, product, and release teams; contribute to functional and non-functional testing; monitor automated tests in the continuous integration system; and communicate test and bug status to stakeholders. The role also involves improving test stability and efficiency, exploring alternative testing tools, and maintaining a learning mindset. Fiserv requires valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization and does not consider candidates who need sponsorship now or in the future.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience writing reliable, maintainable automated tests.
  • Ability to identify test coverage gaps and false positives or negatives; proficiency in black-box, functional, and user-flow testing techniques.
  • Experience with the Android platform and a strong understanding of the mobile test automation ecosystem.
  • At least 3 years of professional-level Java programming skills, including regex processing, class design, and Map data structures.
  • Strong foundation in general QA methodologies, including the software development life cycle (SDLC) and modern testing practices.
  • Ability to write comprehensive, clear, actionable bug reports that support rapid resolution by the engineering team.
  • Technical proficiency with Android diagnostic tools such as ADB, DDMS, Monkey, and Memory Analyzer, including deep log-file analysis for root-cause identification.
  • Experience with software development tools such as an IDE, debugger, Git, and Jira.
  • Interest in building tools that make it easier for engineering teams to write tests.
  • Commitment to reducing automation flakiness and increasing reliability while anticipating changes in the mobile ecosystem.
  • Desire to automate testing and reduce the time required for manual testing.
  • Willingness to work with engineering, manual QA, product, and release teams.
  • Forward-thinking interest in AI/ML technologies, particularly using AI tools to enhance test coverage, predict flakiness, or improve engineering productivity.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or another engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must currently possess valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization; candidates requiring sponsorship now or in the future are not considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Novice-level Unix shell scripting skills, including commands such as grep, cut, sed, sort, and wget.
  • Familiarity with JSON objects, SQL queries, and data structures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test automation plans in collaboration with the manual testing team using Zephyr (Jira).
  • Work on non-functional quality attributes, including performance, reliability, and security.
  • Develop automated tests using appropriate technologies, primarily UI Automator with Java for Android applications.
  • Monitor automated test failures in the continuous integration system; report bugs, analyze and triage tests, and provide stakeholders with timely updates on test status, bug status, and overall product quality.
  • Work alongside the development team on testing in parallel and automating tests within sprints.
  • Design and implement tools that improve the efficiency of manual testing.
  • Research new or better alternative automated testing tools.
  • Help maintain systems for monitoring test stability and report stability issues to engineers.
  • Continuously improve personal skills, products, and the practices used to build them.
