Sr Satellite Systems Engineer

Tomorrow.io•Golden, CO

About The Position

Tomorrow.io is seeking a senior systems engineer to support the development, integration, and verification of an integrated satellite vehicle for its weather observation constellation. The role translates mission objectives into technical requirements, develops verification and validation plans, manages system risks, and coordinates across multidisciplinary teams to support high reliability and data quality. The engineer will evaluate and plan the on-orbit operation and performance of weather-sensing payloads; develop payload architecture and technical designs from concept through launch and operations; manage requirements, verification plans, and traceability; and coordinate interfaces with the spacecraft bus and partner teams. The role also involves payload integration and testing, performance modeling and trade studies, trajectory and constellation planning, risk management, and investigation of operational anomalies. The position works with engineers, scientists, partners, and leadership in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The role requires travel of 15–20% and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds while traveling. Tomorrow.io describes its workplace as an “one office” environment, with teamwork that also includes Zoom meetings, flexible hours, and an emphasis on impact and deliveries rather than hours worked.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years developing, integrating, and testing complex space systems, such as satellite payloads or spacecraft.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, payload integration, and performance modeling.
  • Experience with system architecture, requirements and interfaces, verification planning, and integrated testing.
  • Familiarity with MBSE or similar systems engineering methods.
  • Experience conducting system trade studies and managing technical and program risks.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics, LEO Earth observation constellations, and mission analysis tools such as STK, GMAT, or Orekit.
  • Ability to work across engineering and science teams and explain technical topics clearly to varied audiences.
  • Sound engineering judgment and adaptability in fast-moving development environments.
  • Mission-level perspective, integrity, accountability, transparency, and willingness to learn from successes and setbacks.
  • Ability to travel 15–20%.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds while traveling.
