About The Position

This position serves as the technical resource to the Health and Safety group and the rest of the refinery. The Sr. Safety Specialist will collaborate with all levels of the organization to support the development of facility H&S programs, procedures, safe work practices, campaigns, etc. They will participate as a member of one of the facilities Business Teams, analyze safety performance and statistics, and lead/participate in various safety committees. The role involves developing, conducting, and participating in safety meetings, as well as maintaining and continuously improving existing safety programs for the refinery. Additionally, the specialist will lead and perform safety audits and planned general inspections, support and participate in incident and near miss investigations, and develop and implement general and specialized training presentations, materials, and testing. They will assist field supervision with loss control efforts, interface with contractors regarding safety policies, and serve as a resource for safety regulations and procedures. The position also includes participating in pre-plans and work activities for high-risk jobs, performing Job Hazards Analysis, and providing safety support for turnarounds, capital projects, and other engineering projects. Technical writing functions, such as developing and editing communication materials, standards, plans, and reports, are also part of the role. The Sr. Safety Specialist will provide H&S oversight to the refinery workforce related to confined space entry, hot work, safe work practices, and other health, safety, or industrial hygiene matters. Maintaining a level of H&S related knowledge and expertise through periodic job function training or skill development is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years’ safety and/or industrial hygiene experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Occupational Safety or related course of study preferred.
  • Experience in a petroleum, chemical, or manufacturing plant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Job Hazards Analysis for specific job tasks when necessary.
  • Provide safety support turnarounds, capital projects, and other engineering projects while ensuring compliance with facility standards and federal and local regulatory requirements.
