About The Position

The Senior Oil & Gas Revenue Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely accounting, analysis, and reporting of oil, gas, NGL, and other hydrocarbon revenues. This position performs advanced revenue accounting activities, prepares month-end close analyses, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributes to revenue accounting operations. The role requires strong working knowledge of oil and gas revenue processes, ownership interests, royalty obligations, severance taxes, and industry reporting requirements. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The position also assists with process improvement activities, internal controls, audit requests, and system enhancements.

Requirements

Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills, including PivotTables, lookups, and analysis of large data sets.
Strong knowledge of oil and gas revenue accounting principles, industry practices, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and build productive cross-function relationships.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of progressive oil and gas revenue accounting experience.
Strong understanding of oil and gas revenue accounting principles, including revenue distribution, division orders, ownership interests, severance taxes, and State and Federal regulatory reporting requirements.

Experience with Texas and New Mexico properties.
Experience with ONRR, BLM, or related regulatory reporting.
Experience with Quorum, Enverus, or similar oil and gas accounting systems.
Experience supporting SOX controls and public company reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

Record and reconcile oil, natural gas, NGL, and other revenue transactions.
Review purchaser statements and revenue distribution reports for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare monthly revenue accruals and analyze variances between actual and estimated revenues.
Review production and revenue volumes and investigate discrepancies with Production Accounting and Marketing personnel.
Analyze and reconcile revenue suspense balances and resolve outstanding items.
Review ownership changes and ensure proper revenue distribution in accordance with division orders and ownership records.
Prepare account reconciliations for revenue-related balance sheet accounts.
Prepare and review severance tax calculations, governmental royalty filings, and other reporting requirements, including ONRR reporting as applicable.
Support SOX compliance, maintain effective internal controls, respond to audit requests, and assist with quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
Analyze revenue trends, pricing, deductions, transportation costs, production impacts, and significant revenue variances, and prepare supporting variance analysis packages for management review.
Participate in process, system, and reporting improvements; system upgrades and testing; and maintain accounting procedures and documentation.
Leverage system functionality and data analytics tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Serve as a key contact for royalty owners, working interest owners, auditors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders regarding revenue accounting matters.
Collaborate with Production Accounting, Division Orders, Land, Legal, Operations, and Financial Reporting teams to resolve revenue issues and support business objectives.
May provide functional advice or training to other revenue accountants and complete special projects and ad hoc analyses as assigned.
