Sr. Revenue Accountant / Revenue Accounting Lead

HarnessSan Francisco, CA
$110,000 - $125,000Hybrid

About The Position

Harness is seeking a technically strong and operationally sharp Revenue Accounting Lead to manage ASC 606 compliance, month-end close, revenue projects, and the controls framework. This role is at the intersection of technical accounting and operational excellence, requiring experience in both private and public company environments. The ideal candidate will own processes end-to-end and collaborate with DealOps, Business Systems, FP&A, Legal, and Product teams.

Requirements

  • 4-6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of ASC 606 in a SaaS or software environment.
  • Experience in both private and public companies (or public-ready / Big 4-audited) settings — you understand the difference in rigor and documentation standards.
  • Hands-on expertise with month-end close ownership and audit process, not just participation.
  • Strong working knowledge of internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit coordination.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple competing deliverables and ruthlessly prioritizing focus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills; experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, or comparable ERP/CRM systems.
  • CPA license plus (active or inactive).

Nice To Haves

  • Big 4 public accounting background with technology sector clients.
  • Experience through an IPO, M&A transaction, or significant systems implementation.
  • Familiarity with revenue automation tools (Zuora Revenue, RevPro, or NetSuite ARM).
  • Exposure to usage-based / consumption based models.
  • Savvy on AI tools to build automated workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the monthly revenue close process, including contracts review, SSP analysis, contract modifications, multi-element arrangement accounting, and revenue disclosure under ASC 606.
  • Prepare and review revenue journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses with clear audit trails.
  • Partner with DealOps on contract review to assess revenue recognition implications prior to execution.
  • Maintain and enforce a strong internal controls environment over revenue — document SOX-ready policies, procedures, and control narratives.
  • Lead coordination with external auditors for quarterly reviews and year-end audits; own PBC schedules and audit support for all revenue-related requests.
  • Monitor and interpret new accounting guidance (FASB, SEC) and assess impact on revenue policies.
  • Identify and drive improvements to the revenue close process and routine tasks — reduce cycle time, eliminate manual work, and build scalable workflows.
  • Own revenue system integrity; work with Business System to ensure contracts and revenue data flows accurately into the GL (NetSuite or equivalent).
  • Build and maintain automated revenue schedules, reporting templates, and exception monitoring tools (Excel / Gsheets), ideally utilizing AI tools (Claude).
  • Prepare accurate, executive-ready revenue reporting packages and variance analyses for finance management.
  • Act as a trusted business partner to DealOps, Business System, FP&A, Legal, and Product.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members; set clear standards for work quality and documentation.
