About The Position

We are a dynamic, highly collaborative team of R&D scientists driven by curiosity, openness, and a shared passion for problem solving. We focus on emerging trends in drug discovery such as induced proximity pharmacology, targeted protein degradation, and AI-driven approaches to assay development and biological data analysis. We support customers across all sectors, from academia to biotech and large pharma, and work in close partnership with internal teams across Promega's R&D organization. Every person on the team has real ownership and a genuine opportunity to shape the direction of the work. We hold ourselves to a high standard — scientifically and as collaborators — and believe that curiosity, integrity, and openness are what make great science possible. As a Senior Research Scientist on the Drug Discovery Technologies team, you will work at the intersection of assay development and computational biology, helping us design smarter experiments, generate richer datasets, and engage more deeply with customers and collaborators who are building next-generation drug discovery pipelines. You will design and execute cell-based and biochemical assays to characterize induced proximity compounds, generate multiparametric datasets suited for AI-driven analysis, and apply computational tools to extract actionable insights from complex biological data. You will engage directly with customers to understand their needs and translate those insights into development priorities, contribute to impactful collaborations, and present your work at scientific conferences and in publications.

Requirements

  • MS degree in a scientific discipline with 6+ years post-graduate experience.
  • OR PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 0–3 years post-graduate experience, preferably in an industrial research and/or development environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mammalian cell culture and cell-based assay development.
  • Familiarity with computational or data science approaches applied to biological data, including the ability to apply and interpret existing AI/ML tools and software for data analysis and visualization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, shift gears as needed, and maintain keen attention to detail.
  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own tasks, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in chemical biology, drug discovery, or pharmacology, with exposure to proximity-based or protein interaction modalities a plus.
  • Familiarity with luminescence- or fluorescence-based detection methods in a cell biology or biochemical assay context.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows or experience working in an environment where HTS approaches are applied.
  • Track record of scientific publication or external presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Becomes a technical expert in the application of Promega technologies to induced proximity pharmacology and targeted protein degradation. Assumes a leading role in developing new products and research directions that address the emerging needs of AI-guided drug discovery workflows.
  • Leads hypothesis-driven experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting to generate multiparametric, high-quality datasets suitable for computational and machine learning applications.
  • Develops and applies computational and predictive modeling approaches to support assay design, data interpretation, and product concept iteration. Translates computational outputs into actionable experimental and product decisions.
  • Contributes to the design and development of an automated drug discovery laboratory, embedding AI-driven biology capabilities into Promega's broader R&D infrastructure.
  • Generates clear and concise technical documentation and contributes to internal reports and external scientific literature.
  • Fosters strong relationships through effective communication and presentation to internal project teams and external customers or collaborators.
  • Stays current on relevant industry technologies, methodologies, and trends in induced proximity pharmacology, chemical biology, and AI-driven drug discovery, and implements new techniques as appropriate.
  • Works independently; may mentor, direct, or serve as a technical resource for the work of others.
  • Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.
  • Embraces and is open to incorporating Promega’s 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
  • Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
