About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Laboratory Technician to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Sr. Research Laboratory Technician performs advanced technical activities related to laboratory research projects and clinical trials within the department. Specifically, the Sr. Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists by monitoring and recording study findings. The Comprehensive Center for Brain Health has an opportunity available for a Research Laboratory Technician to join an established clinical-translational research program focused on the investigation of disease mechanism of and therapy development for brain health and neurodegenerative disease. The Research Laboratory Technician will play a central role in the collection of biological samples through phlebotomy and saliva collection, processing of samples using standardized protocols, recording and storage of samples in a biorepository and shipping samples to collaborators and vendors, assisting the research scientists, data entry, and assist in the management of the laboratory, specifically with inventory and ordering of reagents and supplies. The Research Laboratory Technician will be expected to carry out high quality, accurate work in a fast-paced environment in which strong technical, analytical, and managerial skills are essential. This individual will work directly with senior researchers, and research staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Skill in phlebotomy
  • Enjoy working with mid-life and older adults
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified phlebotomist preferred
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Downloads, enters, and regulates data and maintains quality assurance.
  • Contributes to report writing and graphical presentation of data.
  • Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment in compliance with safety regulations and policies.
  • Collect and process biological samples (plasma, serum, saliva following standardized protocols);
  • Perform phlebotomy on research participants
  • Collect saliva samples from research participants
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance;
  • Utilize centrifuges to process samples and aliquot for storage or shipping
  • Record data into Laboratory Management System and research database
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and place orders in a timely fashion;
  • Clean, sanitize, maintain, and operate laboratory equipment;
  • Keep records of research data and assists in analyzing it;
  • Prepare reports of experiment results;
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
