An exciting opportunity is available for a Sr Research Business Manager within the Beckman Research Institute. Under minimal supervision, you will oversee daily research business operations and manage a complex research portfolio, providing strategic guidance to staff and faculty on research administration matters. In addition, you will leverage expert knowledge of COH policies, procedures, and systems, the SBM serves as a key resource for operational leadership, technical expertise, and staff development across the Research Business Operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, business administration, research administration, science, or related field.
  • 4 years of business management experience in an academic research or healthcare environment including 4 years of progressively responsible management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management, extramural fund management, and financial management.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business administration or healthcare administration with 6+ years of business management experience in an academic research or healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research administration and financial management for a complex portfolio, including budgeting, forecasting, fund management, financial reporting, and cost transfer approvals.
  • Coordinate the development and submission of complex grant proposals and ensure compliance with sponsor, institutional, and effort reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with investigators and key stakeholders on research administration activities, including intellectual property, clinical trials, and sponsored research operations.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, personnel actions, payroll approvals, and workforce management for faculty and staff.
  • Manage departmental operations, including purchasing, facilities, travel, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, and laboratory support services.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Research Operations Analysts and administrative staff, providing performance management, coaching, and professional development guidance.
  • Advise departmental administrators and business managers on research administration, financial, and operational matters.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives and represent research business operations on institutional committees and special projects.
