About The Position

The Sr. Research Associate 1, SOM provides laboratory-based support for the University’s research activities by tackling the more specialized and complex projects and experiments. Additionally, the incumbent leverages expertise in training and mentoring department staff, students, and less experienced research associates. This role participates in recruitment and logistics of various Type 1 diabetes research projects, attends required meetings with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team, and reports to the director of clinical research. The position involves obtaining informed consent, scheduling appointments, acting as a liaison between participants and study coordinators/PI, and conducting participant study data collection, including biospecimen collection (urine or blood). The role ensures timely and accurate data entry into UM and sponsor platforms, attends community outreach and study recruitment events, and completes all study-required trainings. The employee will work with pediatric and adult populations primarily at the Diabetes Research Institute and at community outreach events. Willingness to travel for Sponsor investigator meetings within the United States is required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in relevant field required

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes, and presents research data.
  • Monitors and maintains relevant research databases to ensure accurate data entries.
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results to include authorship of scientific monographs.
  • Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant developments in the field.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Warrants that department activities comply with applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Participates in recruitment and logistics of various Type 1 diabetes research projects.
  • Attends all weekly and monthly required meetings with Principal Investigator (PI), research team, and reports to the director of clinical research in a timely manner.
  • Successfully obtains informed consent by assuring that the participant fully understands their responsibilities and involvement in the study.
  • Schedule appointments and provides participant reminders of upcoming data collection appointments and acts as liaison between participants and the study coordinators and PI.
  • Conducts participant study data collection, follow- up visits or online.
  • Ensures that the data packet is properly completed by the participant and entered into the different UM and sponsor’s platforms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attends community outreach and study recruitment events, as needed, with the University of Miami/Diabetes Research Institute clinical research core team.
  • Completes study required trainings including but not limited to CITI Training, internal team training, specific study training, and collection of biospecimens.
  • Willing to travel for Sponsor investigator meetings within the United States.
