Sr Red Hat/UniVerse Administrator

HajocaWhitemarsh Township, PA

About The Position

The Senior Red Hat / UniVerse Administrator is the senior technical owner of the platform that Hajoca’s Epicor Eclipse ERP runs on — the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating environment, the Rocket UniVerse MultiValue database beneath Eclipse, and the near‑real‑time SQL replication layer that feeds the enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence. This role keeps a mission‑critical, 24×7 distribution platform stable, secure, high‑performing, and highly available across production and non‑production environments, while ensuring that operational Eclipse data flows accurately and continuously into SQL Server for reporting and analytics. The ideal candidate blends deep Linux systems administration with hands‑on MultiValue database expertise and a strong data‑integration mindset — someone who can tune the OS and the UniVerse database, work fluently within the Eclipse ecosystem, and own the replication pipeline that turns nested MultiValue records into clean relational data for Power BI, SSRS, and Excel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive systems administration experience, including some senior‑level ownership of production environments.
  • Deep, hands‑on Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration experience— installation, patching, performance tuning, storage, networking, and security.
  • Hands‑on experience administering a MultiValue database — Rocket UniVerse or UniData (U2), or another Pick‑based platform.
  • Working knowledge of Epicor Eclipse ERP (or a comparable MultiValue‑based distribution ERP) sufficient to support the underlying database and data pipeline — Eclipse application administration is owned by a separate partner role.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and of data replication / ETL concepts.
  • Proficient in Bash scripting and automation with Ansible.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to react quickly and decisively during incidents.
  • Virtualization (VMware) and enterprise storage (SAN/NAS) experience.
  • Available for after‑hours maintenance windows and shared on‑call support.
  • Direct experience with Epicor Eclipse SQL Replication and the Information Control Engine (ICE).
  • Reporting/BI integration experience with Power BI, SSRS, and Excel against a replicated SQL data warehouse.
  • Background in wholesale distribution or another multi‑site, high‑transaction environment.
  • Familiar with UniVerse BASIC and comfortable reading and adjusting existing MultiValue code.
  • Experience coordinating vendor support relationships (Epicor, Rocket Software, and VARs).
  • Experience with Rubrik Data Protection for management of backups, recovery, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Experience with Zerto Continuous Data Protection.
  • Demonstrate strong functional knowledge; take ownership of skills, knowledge, and relationships needed to perform the job.
  • Professional, organized, and able to manage work, time, and problems.
  • Results oriented; focused on attaining goals and objectives.
  • Keen ability to interpret technical problems and systematically troubleshoot and resolve.

Nice To Haves

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) and/or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Rocket U2 (UniVerse / UniData) training or certification
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate)

Responsibilities

  • Own Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration: Install, configure, patch, and upgrade RHEL servers (physical and virtual) that host the Eclipse/UniVerse environment, keeping the estate on current, supported releases. Tune the kernel, filesystems (LVM/XFS), memory, and CPU for MultiValue database workloads and heavy transactional I/O. Automate provisioning, patching, and configuration management with Red Hat Satellite and Bash scripting to drive consistency and reduce manual effort. Monitor system health, forecast capacity, and proactively tune performance to sustain availability targets. Administer users, groups, permissions, SSH, sudo/PAM, and OS hardening in line with security policy. Manage networking (interface bonding, firewalld, DNS, NTP), systemd services, logging, and scheduled jobs.
  • Own Rocket UniVerse / MultiValue Database Administration: Administer Rocket UniVerse (U2) MultiValue database instances underpinning Epicor Eclipse — including accounts, files, file sizing/resizing, hashing, and record/group locks. Diagnose and resolve locking, contention, and session issues; tune uvconfig, phantom processes, and shared‑memory parameters for optimal throughput. Perform backups, transaction logging, and point‑in‑time recovery; validate restore procedures on a regular cadence. Apply MultiValue performance monitoring (e.g., Rocket MVX: Performance) to track sessions, locks, host resources, and replication health. Use RetrieVe/UniQuery and read UniVerse BASIC to investigate data issues and support reporting. Maintain UniVerse licensing, TLS transport encryption, and data‑at‑rest encryption; open and manage support cases with Rocket Software or the VAR.
  • Own Epicor Eclipse SQL Replication & Maintain the Data Warehouse: Own the Epicor Eclipse SQL Replication engine that provides near‑real‑time replication of core Eclipse UniVerse (MultiValue) database files directly into a structured SQL Server data‑warehouse environment. Configure, schedule, and continuously monitor replication so operational transactional data syncs into SQL tables with acceptable latency and completeness. Manage the mapping and transformation that flattens nested multi‑value fields — such as multiple order lines within a single record — into standard relational rows and columns. Administer the Information Control Engine (ICE) integration that feeds Eclipse data into dashboards and BI. Maintain the SQL Server data warehouse (schema, indexing, SQL Agent jobs, and storage) and preserve a clean, standard schema for third‑party reporting. Enable and support downstream reporting connections — Power BI, SSRS, and Excel — offloading heavy queries from the primary Eclipse environment to protect production performance. Detect and resolve replication failures, resync/backfill gaps, and continuously verify data integrity between Eclipse and the SQL targets.
  • Ensure Backup, Disaster Recovery & High Availability: Design, execute, and document backup and recovery strategies spanning RHEL, UniVerse, Eclipse, and the SQL data warehouse. Own disaster‑recovery planning and regular failover/recovery testing to meet defined RTO/RPO objectives. Ensure business continuity for a 24×7 distribution operation, including participation in an on‑call rotation.
  • Govern Security & Compliance: Harden and patch RHEL against recognized benchmarks (e.g., CIS / DISA STIG) and manage vulnerability remediation. Enforce least‑privilege access, audit logging, and change‑management discipline across the platform stack. Support enterprise security and compliance initiatives in partnership with the Cyber Security & AI Enablement team.
  • Drive Automation, Documentation & Collaboration: Build and maintain automation (Ansible playbooks and scripts) for repeatable, auditable operations. Produce and maintain runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and knowledge‑base articles. Partner across Infrastructure, Applications & Support, Networking, and Cyber teams, and with business stakeholders. Mentor junior administrators and actively share scarce MultiValue/Eclipse knowledge across the team.
