About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is excited to welcome a Sr Recreation Specialist to the team at Northern Regional Recreation Center. This full-time position will oversee our athletic programs at the facility and will be responsible for planning, implementing, supervising and overall sports program development for toddler, youth, teens, and adult aged participants. In addition, the incumbent may also participate in activity programming for summer camps and other day camps throughout the year. The selected candidate should have a thorough understanding of a wide variety of sports, leagues, tournaments, camps and clinic administration. This position will serve a wide demographic of individuals and experience with implementing a well-rounded community athletics program is a plus. The selected candidate will be expected to create positive relationships and partnerships with our community. This role will require the selected candidate to work a flexible schedule, including one closing night per week, and rotating weekends. Requirements

Minimum of two (2) years of related experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or a related field
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/First Aid
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
Recreational programming and instruction
Applying recreational knowledge through hands-on activities
Developing and enforcing general rules and safety procedure
Managing multiple tasks concurrently
Communicating effectively both orally and in writing
Organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization

Responsibilities

Assist in supervision of activities in a recreation center or park facility
Develop, evaluate, and lead programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility
Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
Supervise part-time and temporary employees, including scheduling, coaching and annual reviews
Assist with monitoring the assigned center's budget, contracts, and compliance
Develop and coordinate a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for a diverse audience
Assist with development of, maintenance repair of equipment and inventory needs
Partner with community leaders to ensure quality programs within the community
Secure instructors and/or volunteers for programs
Advertise programs via radio stations, flyers, Public Service Announcements, banner, and internet
Assist with department events
Approve program proposals
Complete Monthly safety checklists
Communicate effectively with school site administration if located at a satellite site.
Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
Handle inquiries and complaints from public
Referee at various sports activities
Provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or line-person at games
May serve as the manager on duty
