About The Position

Avoya Travel is hiring a full‑time Sr. Python Backend Developer that plays a critical role in designing and building robust backend services and APIs using modern Python frameworks, working with our MS SQL databases and Azure cloud infrastructure. Experience leveraging AI to build intelligent web applications is highly valued. This role partners closely with product, frontend, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance solutions that support business goals. The ideal candidate brings strong Python expertise, sound software engineering practices, and a collaborative mindset, with a focus on writing clean, secure, and maintainable code.

Requirements

• A minimum of (five) 5 years of professional experience in Python backend development
• Experience with SQLModel, SQLAlchemy, or similar ORMs
• Solid experience with MS SQL Server or other relational databases
• Understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices
• Experience with Azure cloud services (App Services, Functions, or similar)
• Familiarity with SDLC tooling: Jira, Bitbucket, Git workflows
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and drive changes effectively in a competitive marketplace

• Ability to receive and setup company laptop, 15” monitor, keyboard, headset, and mouse (all less than 5-lbs each).
• Ability to work in a primary stationary job from a laptop computer (ability to accurately type, read, review, write, etc.).
• Ability to speak English clearly, in a friendly manner, and at an appropriate volume over the company’s provided phone system, Microsoft Teams, or in person as needed.
• Ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Experience integrating AI/ML models or AI services (Azure OpenAI, LangChain, etc.) into applications
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Understanding of microservices architecture
• Experience with async programming and message queues
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (pytest)
• Experience in the travel or e-commerce industry

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI
• Work with SQLModel and MS SQL Server databases to build efficient data layers
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities into web-based applications
• Deploy and manage applications hosted on Microsoft Azure
• Collaborate with frontend developers and cross-functional teams to deliver features
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following best practices
• Participate in code reviews via Bitbucket and provide constructive feedback
• Contribute to sprint planning and task management in Jira
• Troubleshoot and optimize application performance
• Participate in architectural discussions and technical decision-making
• Assist with other tasks and/or special projects as required
