Lockheed Martin Space in Littleton, CO is seeking a mechanical engineer to join the Propulsion Specialties / Propulsion Analysis and Mission Operations team. In this role you will support: performance assessment of Lockheed Martin spacecraft and rocket propulsion systems; development of technical solutions for heritage and development space vehicles; and on-orbit operation of propulsion systems for commercial, civil, and national security spacecraft.

Requirements

  • Experience with performance analysis of propulsion, fluid, and/or thermal systems.
  • Experience mentoring and/or leading small teams.
  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering, physical sciences or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Current Secret or higher clearance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and data processing skills.
  • 5+ years professional experience in attitude control systems, pneumatics, and/or liquid propellants.
  • Experience modelling and designing systems for liquid propellant slosh, or two phase flow.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and respond to problems; test, production, or operations experience in a professional capacity.
  • Experience with thermofluid, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (e.g. ANSYS, COMSOL, Sinda Fluint, Thermal Desktop, etc.).
  • Programming experience (Fortran, C/C++, or MATLAB)
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring junior engineers and interns.
  • Conducting fluid and thermodynamic analyses from first-principles and through finite element methods.
  • Developing new tools for the assessment of tanks, propellant management devices, nozzles, pressure vessels, control valves, regulators, thrusters, and propellants.
  • Presenting analyses and engineering products to internal and external reviewers.
  • Providing timely and accurate response for on-orbit mission events.
