About The Position

The Black & Veatch Campus Infrastructure business has a need for a Sr. Project Engineering Manager with experience leading engineering design activities for large data center projects. As the Sr. Project Engineering Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead large multi-discipline design teams including civil, architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, telecom, security, and BIM while serving as technical specialist on Data Center projects. You will develop and apply advanced techniques, concepts and approaches to complex architectural and engineering problems under general direction. You will provide technical guidance and leadership over the design team on projects of medium to high complexity and be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical deliverables. You will serve as the Owner’s representative for program and project execution and act as the primary client interface for day to day coordination and issue resolution. You will establish priorities and drive alignment across contractors, EPCs, OEMs, and stakeholders, and build business relationships with clients to understand needs for scope and drivers.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience managing complex infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in Owner’s Representative, Project Management Consulting (PMC), Owner’s Engineer, or similar client side execution roles.
  • Strong background in Mega Project Execution in conventional generation, Risk Mitigation, Stakeholder, Contractor and EPC coordination, Construction oversight and field execution, Commissioning and turnover support.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in an on site leadership role while coordinating with home office project management and controls resources.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or construction management.
  • Understanding of design differences in hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centers.
  • Demonstrates understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
  • Intermediate knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
  • Advanced ability to interpret architectural deliverable content as assigned.
  • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Intermediate knowledge of quality programs.
  • Intermediate knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
  • Working knowledge of process and procedures for project controls and estimating.
  • Intermediate knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal process.
  • Intermediate knowledge of management techniques and administrative practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large multi-discipline design teams including civil, architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, telecom, security, and BIM while serving as technical specialist on Data Center projects.
  • Develop and apply advanced techniques, concepts and approaches to complex architectural and engineering problems under general direction.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership over the design team on projects of medium to high complexity.
  • Be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical deliverables.
  • Serve as the Owner’s representative for program and project execution.
  • Act as the primary client interface for day to day coordination and issue resolution.
  • Establish priorities and drive alignment across contractors, EPCs, OEMs, and stakeholders.
  • Build business relationships with clients to understand needs for scope and drivers.
  • Prepare complex architectural and engineering deliverables for multiple or large-scale data center projects including but not limited to schematic design, detailed design, permitting submission, and construction issue documents.
  • Oversee scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and safety performance.
  • Coordinate interfaces across power generation, electrical infrastructure, data center, and interconnection scopes.
  • Support change management, claims avoidance, and commercial risk alignment.
  • Conduct complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Understand key client interests and drivers for moderately complex projects.
  • Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions.
  • Provide support for business development or pursuit activities.
  • Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision.
  • Lead large multi-disciplined teams to meet project deliverables.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex data center and commercial projects.
  • Drive solutions to achieve project goals.
  • Provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable codes and policies.
  • Experience working as part of or managing Building Design, MEP, Engineering Teams including but not limited to architecture, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power distribution, lighting, communication, and civil, and structural engineering.
  • Reviews architect and engineering work or assignments.
  • Responsible for mentoring and performance management of assigned personnel.
  • Partner with client or home office PM, scheduling, cost, and risk resources to maintain: Integrated Master Schedules, Cost forecasts, commitments, and change logs, Risk registers and mitigation plans.
  • Provide consistent, executive level reporting to client and internal leadership.
  • Coordinate integrated testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
  • Support transition to operations, documentation closeout, and lessons learned.
