About The Position

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services, is seeking a Remote Field Based Sr. Project Engineer - Electrical Safety for the Northeast U.S., preferably in the New Jersey area, to join our Electrical team. Intertek's Electrical business line has over 100 years of product testing expertise to help clients meet safety, performance, environmental, and quality requirements for various markets including Medical, Lighting, Renewable Energy, HVACR, Appliances & Electronics, Hazardous Locations, Industrial Equipment, Life Safety & Security, and IT & Telecom Equipment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 4 years of directly related experience
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established guidelines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards (i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC etc.)
  • Up to 75% travel, as business dictates
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license and reliable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform testing and evaluation on a variety of products to U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards.
  • Write reports and communicate with clients.
  • Provide local expertise in one or more product categories.
  • Mentor and train less senior technical personnel.
  • Conduct on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s).
  • Perform more complex projects.
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
  • Follow established test plan.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Conduct thorough construction review, document results.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, and laser.
  • Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Perform field labeling jobs.
  • Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status in one or more product categories.
  • Proactively develop and communicate test procedures and report shells for Cortland, NY office.
  • Investigate technical complaints and support accreditations efforts by performing technical audits locally.
  • Provide quotations for a large array of standards and complex projects and products.
  • Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
  • Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Actively represent Intertek by participating on standards/industry committees and/or associations.
  • Identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments within policy guidelines.
  • Perform other work as required.
