About The Position

The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Sr. Program Implementation Lead, Fontan System of Care Initiative. This position can be home-based. This is a full-time, benefits eligible, grant funded opportunity. Current funding will expire on 6/30/2031, with the possibility of extension. The American Heart Association is recruiting an experienced professional responsible for implementing and executing a 5-year vision and operational plan to create the Fontan Health Network Initiative, in collaboration with the American Heart Association’s Science Leadership and co-funding organization(s), to ensure alignment and achievement of Initiative goals. The Fontan Health Network Initiative was jointly established in 2026 by the American Heart Association and Additional Ventures to transform measurement, systems, and care practices to improve long-term health outcomes of congenital heart disease patients who undergo Fontan circulation procedures. The Network will design, award, and coordinate multi-center research awards that establish an enhanced translational ecosystem integrating clinical surveillance, discovery science, computational analytics, and implementation science. The Senior Program Implementation Lead for the Fontan Health Network Initiative will serve as the primary representative and liaison for the Initiative across different groups of Association stakeholders, while leveraging their expertise in health system strengthening and clinical care implementation science to design and oversee related Initiative components. Requirements

  • Bachelors or equivalent work experience required; Advanced Degree preferred: i.e. MPH, Masters of Science, or medical credential
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in healthcare, health systems, and/or health policy; clinical experience preferred
  • Experience working in or with large, matrixed healthcare organization(s)
  • Experience in leading collaborative research initiatives or programs
  • Experience with program management across industry, healthcare, philanthropy, government and non-government organizations
  • Experience working with national level executive volunteers and national boards
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact and engage across different disciplines and institutions
  • Ability to travel up 25% local and overnight stay

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements strategic and operational plans, in collaboration with counterpart Fontan Health Network Initiative staff within and outside the Association, including managing to the $20 million budget, internal and external team resources, volunteer and stakeholder engagement, and funder relationships and compliance requirements.
  • Leads implementation planning and operational coordination for activities related to clinical practice discovery and evaluation.
  • Works with scientific leadership and participating sites to support the eventual adoption of validated evidence into clinical practice.
  • Leads implementation of the learning infrastructure needed to support the multi-site Network, including coordination of data standards, data governance, interoperability, registry integration, and mechanisms that enable longitudinal learning and evaluation across participating sites.
  • Works collaboratively with the Initiative's scientific leadership and funded computational teams to ensure that the infrastructure supports discovery, translation, and continuous improvement.
  • Builds relationships and engages key strategic stakeholders from public, healthcare, patient advocacy, and private organizations impacting the project, including key national alliances and partnerships that will advance the momentum of the initiative.
  • Represents the initiative in external / public interactions and events.
  • Supports the integration of the Initiative team and other internal resources including: American Heart Association: Executive Leadership, Office of Science Operations, Communications, Mission Advancement, Office of Funded Programs Funder(s): Executive Leadership and staff, Communications
