About The Position

The Senior Professional Staff Nurse II is a Registered Nurse and member of the care delivery team who is responsible for providing nursing care and seeking opportunities to improve practice through process improvement. The nurse sets standards for the level and quality of care and is accountable for managing and providing care to a group of patients and their families using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration. The role includes leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, as well as maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes throughout the continuum of care. This position is on UPMC Shadyside’s 17-bed Short Stay Unit, which cares for outpatient medical patients requiring additional monitoring for up to 24 hours. Typical patients are recovering from procedures such as cardiac catheterization, radiology procedures, or bronchoscopy, or are receiving infusions such as chemotherapy or blood transfusions. The unit’s independent staff focuses on quality care and patient satisfaction. Because stays are brief, the work is fast-paced and requires strong critical-thinking and prioritization skills. The role includes developing and precepting students, graduate nurses, and new hires; applying evidence-based and relationship-based care; promoting quality and safety; and serving as a professional role model and unit leader. Applicants with less than three years of experience will not be considered. BSN is preferred. The minimum rate for a non-BSN Senior Professional Staff Nurse II is $44.41 per hour. The position is eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus. Final job title and pay rate depend on individual qualifications and candidate choice; applicable certification and contribution requirements may be completed within the stated timeframe.
