About The Position

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Sr. Professional Engineer to join its team, offering an opportunity to make a significant impact on the community. This role involves leading teams in the development and initiation of complex capital infrastructure projects, primarily focused on Stormwater-related initiatives such as storm drain pipe rehabilitation, channel restoration, and culvert design. The successful candidate will perform professional civil engineering work, evaluating Stormwater issues, and developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets for capital improvement projects. Responsibilities also include managing consultants, reviewing plans and specifications, conducting public meetings, and overseeing contracts. The position requires effective collaboration with City officials, residents, commercial entities, and other agencies to ensure project success. The role operates independently under the direction of an Engineering Manager, emphasizing strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field
  • Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience, two (2) of which must be related to civil engineering design and construction projects and/or infrastructure design/review of private development projects
  • Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Professional Engineer within the State of Texas within six months of employment
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • At least seven (7) years of engineering experience; four (4) years of experience must relate to Stormwater management/drainage
  • Project Management Professional PMP certification
  • Highly familiar with fundamental principles, practices, and techniques of Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, drainage and civil engineering
  • Experience with FEMA and other federal agencies' regulations and permitting

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in the development and initiation of complex capital infrastructure projects, primarily Stormwater-related, such as storm drain pipe rehabilitation, channel restoration, culvert design, and other stormwater improvement projects.
  • Perform professional civil engineering work by leading teams to evaluate Stormwater-related issues and develop project scope, schedule, and budget for Stormwater Infrastructure capital improvement projects.
  • Manage consultants, review consultant plans and specifications, conduct public meetings, and oversee contracts, amendments, and invoices.
  • Collaborate effectively with City officials, residents, commercial entities, and other agencies to ensure project success.
  • Work independently under the direction of an Engineering Manager while demonstrating strong leadership, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Performing construction project management and professional civil engineering work and leading teams to evaluate Stormwater-related issues and develop the scope, schedule, and budget for Stormwater infrastructure capital improvement projects to address these issues.
  • Ability to meet pressing deadlines and manage contracts and have to facilitate and coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional customer service, time management, communication, and writing skills are essential to address telephone, email, and public inquiries.
  • Reviewing consultant Plans and Specifications.
  • Reviewing contracts, amendments, and invoices, and performing other tasks as needed.
  • Providing direct support to the Engineering Manager and assisting in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives and making recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.
