Sr. Product Engineer

About The Position
As a Senior Product Engineer at OpenEd, you'll join a small, high-impact team building innovative education technology solutions. This is a truly unique opportunity to be a founding member of our in-house engineering team as we transition away from agency contractors. You'll work directly with our CTO in a Fullstack capacity with emphasis on frontend technologies, and you'll have significant influence over our technical architecture and implementation approach. The ideal candidate will grow into a team lead role while helping us build a culture of engineering excellence.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience; preferably at early-stage companies or in founding engineering roles
- Strong expertise in React, JavaScript and modern frontend development
- Enthusiasm for our mission
- Experience with NextJS or similar React frameworks
- Understanding of database design and SQL (particularly PostgreSQL)
- Proven track record of designing and implementing complex features
- Experience mentoring junior developers and guiding technical decisions
- Solid understanding of performance optimization and best practices
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication abilities and team collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain features using React, NextJS, and modern JavaScript
- Architect and implement new product capabilities while improving existing ones
- Lead technical decisions and help establish best practices and coding standards
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team
- Collaborate with product and design to translate requirements into elegant solutions
- Improve engineering processes and contribute to technical strategy
- Participate in cross-functional discussions to represent engineering perspectives
- Balance technical debt with feature development to ensure sustainable growth
- Help establish a strong engineering culture as we build our in-house team
- Adhere to all federal, state and/or local regulations, OpenEd policies and procedures, and other compliance obligation
- Lead by example to foster an environment that is supportive of OpenEd’s values and represent OpenEd with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
