About The Position

Gates is a leading manufacturer of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions. We push the boundaries of material science to engineer solutions that continually exceed customer expectations. This role is within our Global Mobility group supporting the development of belt drive systems for Bikes and Fitness equipment.

Requirements

5-7 years of progressive and comprehensive product development experience.
Bachelor's Degree in technical field required (mechanical engineering, etc.).
Experience in mechanical design (preferably in related products).
Experience in hands-on prototyping.
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Demonstrated ability in metal, plastic, or composite part design including material selection.
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing (GD&T), with focus on high volume manufacturing.
Experience with technical graphical communication of concepts, ideas, and solutions
High level interpersonal and leadership skills; must be able to influence and collaborate across multiple levels within the company, at various locations, and with suppliers.
Experience with automotive or aerospace industry quality standards and manufacturing methods; TS16949, AS9100, ISO9000, etc.
Highest values on safety in personal work practices and consideration in design of processes and equipment.
SolidWorks fluency desirable.
Demonstrated experience with finite element analysis methods.
Demonstrated experience with geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
Solid project management skills
Self-motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities.
A preference to hands on work style.
Must be able to legally work in the US without company visa sponsorship.

Experience working with overseas manufacturers a plus.
Passion for Motorcycles, Powersports, Scooters, Bicycles, and Fitness applications desired.

Responsibilities

Design and engineer new products and technologies to support the strategic plan in accordance with best practices.
3D design and GD&T drawings of complex parts and assemblies.
Work with application, process, and manufacturing experts and suppliers in development of new products to meet performance targets.
Work with material and process experts and suppliers in development of new designs to meet timing and performance targets.
Work with operators and production personnel to develop samples and document new processes.
Support continuous product and process improvements (sustaining engineering).
Collaborate with Engineering Program Managers on product updates and ensure all changes are well-documented and efficiently implemented.
Proactively communicate (both verbally and written) key developments and updates on new projects/products to program management.
