About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovation. The company's technologies push boundaries across various fields. This role is for a Sr. Process Engineer who will use creativity, judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by identifying and eliminating root causes. The engineer will collaborate with suppliers to enhance performance and ensure measurement/inspection systems meet customer needs. Opportunities exist to improve processes and solve problems using the scientific method, DMAIC, and advanced statistical tools. Key areas of focus include improving manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety through the evaluation of new raw materials, equipment, or process parameters. The role also involves documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Standard Operating Supports (SOSs), experiment plans, and process changes. Projects may support any Corning division or research and development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (master’s preferred).
  • 3-5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects.
  • Using creative and innovative problem-solving approaches, methods, and execution.
  • Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization.
  • Excellent Analytical Skills - Decision-making based on data.
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
  • Lead and support solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem-solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.
  • Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations.
  • Analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g., Pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.).
  • Measure and communicate performance against established objectives.
  • Review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long-term corrective actions, and follow-up experiments.
  • Document processes and mentor operators and peers on defined processes.
