About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector has an opening for a Sr. Principal Reliability & Maintainability Systems Engineer to join their team. This position will be located onsite in Melbourne, FL. The role is within the Product Support organization, focusing on System Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineering Analysis. The engineer will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and verifying subsystem R&M performance requirements for design changes and new development efforts to ensure R&M program requirements are achieved. The primary focus will be on reliability, maintainability, and testability. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and diverse assignments, collaborating effectively with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers. Responsibilities may include developing mathematical models to identify failure risks, proposing design changes to improve reliability, and determining units requiring environmental testing. The position requires a self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented individual.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 6 years of engineering experience OR PhD with 1 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience in Reliability and Maintainability discipline
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated US Government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
  • Familiarity with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Experience with Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
  • Experience with maintainability demonstrations
  • Experience with Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Reliability Growth Testing (RGT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within Reliability and Maintainability discipline
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Active, In scope US Government Top Secret or SCI clearance

Responsibilities

  • Perform R&M allocations and predictions
  • Develop Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) analysis
  • Perform Built In Test (BIT) testability analysis
  • Develop mission reliability analysis
  • Support the development of teams in the investigation of issues
  • Liaison with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and suppliers for the R&M of assigned subsystems
  • Develop, coordinate and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs
  • Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability
  • Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes
  • Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards
  • Analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives
  • Develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks
  • Propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability
  • Determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specify minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data
