About The Position

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Senior Principal DevOps Engineer to join the Prisma AIRS shared services team. Prisma AIRS is an AI security platform providing model security, posture management, AI red teaming, and runtime protection. This role is a technical leadership position with influence across the Prisma AIRS organization, responsible for building the platform and setting the technical direction that engineering teams use to build and ship software. The engineer will shape a cohesive Internal Developer Platform, advance GitOps and progressive delivery, establish Kubernetes and GCP best practices, and architect and operate highly available, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure. The position also focuses on managing GPU/TPU resources, reducing engineering toil through automation and self-service tools, and driving shared platform architecture and engineering standards. The platform uses GCP as its primary cloud, along with Kubernetes, AWS, containerization tools, GitLab CI, Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes Config Connector, Helm, Terraform, Cue, Python, Go, BASH, and rego. The organization also uses AI coding assistants such as Claude. The company says most teams work from the office full time, with flexibility when needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Platform Engineering, including designing and operating large-scale cloud infrastructure.
  • Extensive hands-on experience building and managing cloud infrastructure declaratively, with expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Helm, and Crossplane/ACK/KCC.
  • Deep proficiency with a major cloud provider, ideally GCP.
  • Thorough understanding of Kubernetes in large-scale production environments.
  • Fluency in building automation and platform tooling using modern, typed Python.
  • Extensive production experience with GitOps and CI/CD, including Argo CD, Argo Rollouts, and GitLab CI.
  • Hands-on infrastructure-building experience, such as developing cloud-native or Kubernetes-native infrastructure, Internal Developer Platforms, or Terraform providers.
  • Strong debugging ability and command of engineering fundamentals, including Linux internals, networking, and application performance, to diagnose complex distributed systems.
  • Ownership, self-motivation, and ability to take projects from idea through production.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work across multiple engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating GPU-accelerated inference and model-serving infrastructure at scale, such as Google Vertex AI, Amazon Bedrock, or NVIDIA Triton Inference Server.
  • Advanced MLOps experience with data/feature pipelines, model serving such as KServe/Seldon, ML security and governance, and LLMOps including RAG, evaluation, and guardrails.
  • Experience with Python, Go, BASH, and rego; Go is highly desired.
  • Experience with cloud-native monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and GCP Cloud Monitoring.
  • Experience with cloud security compliance, IAM controls, and securing container workloads.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evangelize a cohesive Internal Developer Platform that simplifies and accelerates the path to production while building in safety.
  • Drive adoption of GitOps and progressive delivery, using the Argo suite to provide safe, automated, and observable deployment pipelines.
  • Set Kubernetes and GCP best practices and create patterns that influence product architecture, reliability, and security.
  • Architect and operate highly available, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage GPU/TPU resource allocation, spot-instance fleets, and cluster usage dashboards.
  • Reduce engineering toil through automation, self-service tooling, and observability frameworks.
  • Set the technical direction for shared platform services and drive infrastructure architecture decisions across Prisma AIRS.
  • Mentor engineers and promote high standards for automation, reliability, and security across teams.

Benefits

  • The compensation may include restricted stock units and a bonus.
  • Employee benefits are referenced in the posting, but specific benefits are not listed.
