About The Position

This SkillBridge fellowship opportunity with Raytheon, part of RTX Corporation, is intended for transitioning U.S. military service members seeking experience in the aerospace and defense industry. Fellows receive training and mentorship and gain an in-depth understanding of the business; they remain under the administrative control of their military chain of command and receive no compensation or RTX employee benefits during the fellowship. After successful completion, fellows are encouraged to apply for open positions at RTX. The fellowship focuses on satellite communications and space systems engineering. Participants may design, analyze, simulate, and evaluate satellite communications systems and end-to-end communication architectures; assess command and control architectures and performance; model communications resilience under electronic warfare conditions; and support requirements and architecture development. The listing identifies the position as hybrid, while a later role-type field says onsite. Participation requires active-duty status, eligibility under DoD Instruction 1322.29, completion of TAP and transition requirements before the start date, and approval from a unit commander or an O4+ in the chain of command. U.S. citizenship and an active, existing TS/SCI clearance are required after day one, as is the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to participate in DoD SkillBridge.
  • Must be on active-duty orders in the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements under DoD Instruction 1322.29.
  • Must complete all TAP and transition requirements before the start date.
  • Must obtain approval from a unit commander or O4+ in the chain of command.
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a STEM field related to the role and a minimum of 10 years of relevant prior experience.
  • Experience engaging with customers and building consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience leading technical teams from program startup through requirements sell-off.
  • Experience developing technical plans, operational concepts (OPSCON/CONOPs), and analyses supporting satellite operations.
  • Experience in satellite communications, aerospace communications, RF systems, or related engineering disciplines.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing DoD TS/SCI clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex communications link modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
  • Experience with spacecraft command and control, telemetry, tracking, and communications systems.
  • Experience with electronic warfare concepts and their effects on airborne or space-based communications systems.
  • Experience analyzing system-level performance and translating mission needs into technical requirements.
  • A master's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Experience with satellite communications standards, waveforms, protocols, or ground systems.
  • Experience with resilient, anti-jam, low-probability-of-intercept (LPI), low-probability-of-detection (LPD), or frequency-agile communications.
  • Knowledge of space-ground interfaces, mission operations, and spacecraft bus or payload architectures.
  • Experience with RF propagation, atmospheric effects, orbital dynamics, Doppler analysis, and antenna systems.
  • Experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements development, interface control development, verification and validation, and technical baseline management.
  • Experience supporting government, defense, intelligence, or commercial space programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, simulate, and evaluate satellite communications systems and end-to-end communication architectures.
  • Analyze and evaluate space- and ground-based command and control architectures, interfaces, operational concepts, and performance requirements, including electronic warfare tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Model and assess communications system resilience in the presence of interference, jamming, spoofing, congestion, and other electronic warfare conditions.
  • Develop, model, and assess satellite communications links for space-to-ground and space-to-space systems.
  • Support system requirements development and system architecture development.
