Sr. Power Systems Engineer

Intuitive Machines•San Jose, CA
•$102,000 - $195,000

About The Position

Lanteris Space is seeking an experienced Power Subsystems Engineer for its Space Program Delivery team. The position is based in San Jose, California, and may also be performed remotely within the United States. The engineer will develop power architectures for a range of spacecraft missions, including low Earth orbit constellations, and serve as the engineering focal point for a spacecraft’s power subsystem. The role involves working with system and subsystem leads to develop requirements and specifications through analysis and trade studies, translating customer requests into feasible designs, and flowing requirements into unit specifications, verification tests, and risk-reduction plans. Where new unit designs are needed, the engineer will support make-or-buy decisions and vendor selection; for purchased units, the engineer will coordinate with vendors and track deliveries to Lanteris Space.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or STEM discipline; four additional years of experience may substitute for a degree. A master’s degree may count for two years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in power subsystems or electrical engineering.
  • Experience performing all or most aspects of systems engineering, including requirements analysis, interface control documentation, concept of operations development, use case development, operational details, and test plan development.
  • Familiarity with a requirements tool.

  • Familiarity with satellite power system design and testing through education or related work experience.
  • Experience leading electrical engineering designs through the full lifecycle.
  • Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with software and system development projects using model-based systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of most of the following: power system design, solar arrays, batteries, bus regulation and distribution, power quality, and DC/DC conversion.
  • Familiarity with deployment and maintenance of development, test, and operational environments.
  • Best practices in writing requirements.
  • Familiarity with the space environment and its effects on satellite systems.
  • Active security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Create power budgets and provide inputs for power subsystem sizing.
  • Collaborate with Database, Harness Thermal, Flight Software, and other subsystem engineers.
  • Resolve issues during Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT) phases.
  • Develop power subsystem requirements and specifications through analysis and system trade studies.
  • Translate customer requests into feasible design solutions.
  • Flow down power requirements into unit specifications, subsystem verification tests, and risk-reduction plans.
  • Support make-or-buy decisions and vendor selection when new unit design is required.
