About The Position

The Senior Project Manager is the single point of accountability for the successful delivery of complex substation construction projects across Connecticut. This role owns safety, cost, schedule, contractor performance, outage coordination, and energization through execution in live brownfield environments. The Senior PM leads multi-disciplinary teams, manages external contractors, resolves field conflicts, and makes time-sensitive decisions that directly impact system reliability, regulatory compliance, and capital performance. The Senior Project Manager is fully accountable for the on‑time delivery of assigned substation construction projects, ensuring delivery within approved budgets and in conformance with engineering, quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The role is responsible for meeting corporate goals for capital investment, including effective management of Construction Work in Progress (CWIP), capital forecasting, and timely energization to support system reliability and business objectives. The Senior Project Manager represents the company in regulatory proceedings and public forums, including meetings with municipalities, regulators, and other external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant project management experience in utility, infrastructure, or complex construction environments is required
  • Substation PM construction experience is strongly preferred, including exposure to live or brownfield environments and projects delivered through energization.
  • Candidates without direct substation experience may be considered if they demonstrate closely related and transferable experience
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing engineering development, construction execution, contractor performance, cost and schedule controls, and risk mitigation on capital projects is required.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, resolve scope and execution disputes, and deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Bachelor’s degree (in Engineering preferred) with 12 years relevant experience in energy industry required. Or more than 20 years relevant experience in energy industry required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership and oversight of the engineering phase of substation projects, ensuring engineering deliverables support constructability, schedule commitments, cost targets, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinates and provides project‑level oversight of internal and external engineering resources, ensuring designs are complete, accurate, and issued in accordance with project schedules and construction needs.
  • Ensures timely resolution of engineering issues, design changes, and constructability challenges that impact construction execution, outage planning, or energization.
  • Maintains accountability for engineering scope, schedule, and budget as part of overall project delivery.
  • Ensures effective integration between engineering and construction teams to support sequencing, outage planning, and field execution.
  • Maintains overall accountability for construction execution outcomes, including safety, schedule, cost, quality, and readiness for energization.
  • Oversees Construction Managers and Field Construction Managers responsible for day‑to‑day field activities, providing direction, priority setting, and escalation support as required.
  • Ensures construction activities are executed in accordance with approved engineering, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules.
  • Acts as escalation point for field issues, contractor performance concerns, sequencing conflicts, and impacts to schedule or energization.
  • Fully accountable for on‑time project delivery, ensuring projects are completed within approved scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Responsible for meeting corporate capital investment goals through disciplined management of capital forecasts, Construction Work in Progress (CWIP), and timely project energization.
  • Proactively manages cost, schedule, and risk; develops and implements recovery strategies when performance deviates from plan.
  • Approves project plans, contract strategies, and authorizes expenditures within delegated authority.
  • Oversees external consultants, engineering firms, and construction contractors; holds all parties accountable for performance, safety, quality, and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinates with internal departments, municipal stakeholders, permitting agencies, regulators, utilities, and major customers throughout project development and execution.
  • Represents the company in regulatory proceedings and public forums, including municipal meetings, permitting hearings, and engagements with regulatory agencies.
  • Accountable for project governance, controls, and compliance with FERC, NERC, and internal project management and quality processes.
  • Defines and manages project risks, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning.
  • Provides clear, actionable reporting to senior leadership on cost, schedule, risk, and execution status, including participation in executive and cost/schedule review meetings.
