About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. The team supports all AWS data centers and the associated equipment, focusing on safety, security, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves working on challenging problems within a diverse team of engineers and specialists, collaborating across AWS to maintain high standards and provide scalable capacity. Amazon Web Services is looking for Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineers to join a global engineering team. This role will focus on the implementation and technical evaluation of designs and the continuous innovation of the company's expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon are tasked with designing resilient, cost-effective systems, achieving world-class uptime, and justifying technical decisions to senior management. They drive advancements and improvements in designs, define systems customers rely on, and possess hands-on design and field experience with a strong understanding of data center plumbing and fire-protection needs. The team is structuring to handle more engineering in-house.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • 6+ years of design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • BIM/Revit experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement energy-efficient plumbing and fire protection systems for data centers
  • Create comprehensive documentation for designs and operational procedures
  • Support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization
  • Guide project teams through planning, execution, and commissioning phases
  • Conceives, initiates, and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation
  • Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions
  • Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges
  • Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries
  • Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds
  • Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports
  • Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Plumbing and Fire Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing
  • Drive standardization in the data center plumbing and fire-protection spaces
  • Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements
  • Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects
  • Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
  • Maintain and host technical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center plumbing and fire-protection systems
  • Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community
  • Offer creative out-of-the-box solutions
