About The Position

Under the direction of the Director – Platform Technology and the Principal Platform Integration Engineer, the Sr Platform Engineer supports the execution and delivery of technical aspects of Mayo Clinic Platform’s technology roadmap. The role contributes to reusable, secure-by-default platform foundations and develops platform services and integration capabilities for secure, efficient healthcare data exchange.

The engineer builds backend services and frontend applications, integrates healthcare systems and data sources, and works with cloud architects and platform engineers to deploy and operate healthcare solutions on Google Cloud Platform. The role also supports data movement and validation, operational tooling, monitoring, reliability, and service-level objectives. It collaborates across engineering, product, design, architecture, data, solutions, and implementation teams to translate requirements and recurring needs into maintainable platform tools, patterns, and documentation. The position contributes implementation and operational insights to the platform roadmap and follows established software and product development lifecycle processes. Other duties may be added or assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant information technology field, or a minimum of 7 years of direct full-stack engineering experience with increasing complexity.
• 3–5 years working in diverse environments using Agile software development principles.
• Proven experience as a Full Stack Engineer, with a strong emphasis on healthcare interoperability.
• Proficiency in Java and/or .NET for backend development, including API and service design and implementation.
• Expertise in JavaScript, particularly React and frameworks such as Next.js, for responsive and intuitive frontend applications.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or equivalent services and cloud-native application development.
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and OMOP.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• A proactive, self-driven mindset and interest in staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
• Experience with healthcare solutions integration and delivery.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of healthcare data security and compliance requirements, including HIPAA, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of reusable platform foundations using well-architected and secure-by-default principles.
• Design, develop, and maintain platform services and integration capabilities for secure, efficient healthcare data exchange.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, architecture, and partner teams to clarify requirements, review technical specifications, and develop maintainable solutions.
• Build scalable services using languages and frameworks such as Java, TypeScript, Go, or .NET while maintaining data integrity, security, reliability, and healthcare compliance standards.
• Develop and maintain applications and shared user-interface capabilities using React/Next.js for healthcare professionals and patients.
• Build and maintain integrations with healthcare systems, APIs, and data sources, using reusable patterns where appropriate.
• Partner with cloud architects and platform engineers to deploy and operate healthcare solutions on Google Cloud Platform using established cloud and infrastructure patterns.
• Use DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment tooling to automate delivery and support application availability and performance.
• Collaborate with data engineers on platform capabilities for secure healthcare data movement, validation, monitoring, and use.
• Stay informed about relevant platform engineering, healthcare interoperability, frontend development, and cloud operations technologies and practices, and contribute to evaluating their practical value.
• Work with product, solutions, and implementation teams to identify recurring application and integration needs and translate them into reusable platform tools, patterns, and documentation.
• Partner with solutions and implementation/support teams to design, develop, and deploy platform operations management and support tooling, potentially including quality monitoring tools, system action audit logs, and application telemetry.
• Contribute to service-level objectives and agreements through monitoring, alerting, reliability improvements, and follow-up actions for team-owned services.
• Contribute to the Mayo Clinic Platform technical roadmap using implementation experience, operational learning, and feedback from platform users.
• Collaborate with product partners and follow established Software Development Life Cycle and Product Development Life Cycle processes, keeping technical delivery aligned with product goals and organizational requirements.
