About The Position

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure timely and accurate accounting for project costs and fixed assets. Performs complex, professional, technical work related to the preparation and the maintenance of the company’s fixed asset records and systems. This position is responsible for related balance sheet reconciliations and process development within the department. This position works with various financial and governmental auditors with respect to project and audit preparations. Considerable judgment and independence are required to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, rules, and State and Federal laws and regulations.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 2 years of related experience in Accounting, or equivalent.
A general educational knowledge normally acquired through a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and 5 years of related experience in Accounting.
Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or modifications on technical or other complex concepts to individuals with little or no background in the area under discussion, verbally and in writing.
Requires the ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages and simple statistical methods.
Requires knowledge of various software applications to create documents, reports and/or graphics.

Responsibilities

Records fixed asset additions and retirements in PowerPlan.
Assists in formulating accounting policy and procedures involved in the tracking of project costs and maintenance of property, plant, and equipment records.
Reconciles plant-related balance sheet accounts.
Assists in reviewing, interpreting, and correcting all information in PowerPlan.
Works with various business unit representatives to resolve questions related to project costs.
Ability to cover all Fixed Asset Accounting duties during absence of others in group.
Performs research, journal entries, and fixed asset entries, as needed.
Identify issues or factors inhibiting progress on individual projects, collect and analyze data.
Prepares monthly accounting journal entries.
Prepares monthly account reconciliations.
Performs processes during the monthly close cycle.
Creates, updates, reviews, investigates and distributes schedules and financial reports pertaining to various phases of accounting functions.
Prepares, analyzes and verifies accounting reports and other records to support responses to data requests in connection with regulatory filings and audits.
Assures that all transactions are properly supported and are in accordance with GAAP, FERC, SOX, and other regulatory requirements.
Provides internal and external customer support when needed.
