About The Position

The Sr. Phlebotomy Technician assists the supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the department. This position is responsible for accurately performing and processing Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions.

Requirements

  • 1 year phlebotomy experience required
  • 1 year pediatrics experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Floater - Traveling is required for this position - Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
  • Minimum 1 year in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
  • 3 years of progressive, accomplished experience in POC and phlebotomy preferred.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares staff schedule to provide adequate coverage and updates changes daily
  • Ensures equitable distribution of workload.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues with technicians, clinic staff etc. as needed in conjunction with the Supervisor.
  • Monitors to ensure work is being performed efficiently.
  • Establishes in conjunction with the Supervisor an onboarding program for new employees.
  • Performs phlebotomy and POC testing as needed.
  • Maintains drawing and POC testing carts/trays with necessary supplies.
  • Maintains all necessary supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
  • Displays need for cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and materials.
  • Sorts timed specimen requisitions and distribute them according to unit assignments as necessary.
  • Obtain specimens, requisitions, draw blood or perform POC tests as needed.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies.
