About The Position

Performs a variety of inventory control and related administrative duties. Performs purchasing, storage, distribution, inventory control, record keeping, contract compliance/audits, and billing of all pharmaceuticals and related products. Maintains purchasing records, receives and stores pharmacy inventory, maintains proper inventory levels and ensures correct prices are billed from vendors.

Requirements

  • State Pharmacy Technician license: Required in state of practice (CA or OR)
  • High School Education/GED or equivalent
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience
  • One year's pharmacy buyer experience
  • Pharmaceutical Technician Board certification

Responsibilities

  • Locates, evaluates and selects cost-effective supply sources.
  • Considers contractual obligations and product availability.
  • Updates and maintains ordering and inventory control system, including purchasing and inventory records.
  • Sets reorder points to maximize inventory turns while maintaining adequate supply level.
  • Makes rounds to the nursing units to exchange patient medication cassettes.
  • Returns unused IV admixture to the pharmacy for credit.
  • Picks up pharmacy documents.
  • Mixes IV additive and chemotherapy as required.
  • Efficiently maintains departmental outdates and drug return program.
  • Processes all drug recall notifications including the removal of identifiable lots from shelves and proper return of items to wholesaler or manufacturer source.
  • Prepares medications and pharmaceutical supplies for the pharmacist to check prior to dispensing to the patient.
  • Prepares usage reports to monitor purchasing patterns and trends.
  • Assists director, clinical specialist, and others in analysis of drug purchases.
  • Monitors formulary compliance.
  • Processes invoices for payment in a timely manner including approval, reconciling product received against items billed, and matching packing slips to invoices.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, including cost savings.
  • Creatively addresses challenges.
  • Coordinates purchases for and charges to various interdepartmental and external accounts.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
