About The Position

Are you known for your attention to detail, and superb payroll and tax skills? This may be the position for you! As a Senior Payroll Tax Specialist, you will provide expert knowledge in payroll tax, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. You will monitor legislative changes, manage payroll tax filings, reconcile payroll reports to tax filings, and maintain payroll systems for multi-state and local jurisdictions, and manage tax filing amendments. This role requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax processing. Work closely with third-party payroll tax provider, managing support cases, invoicing, updates and processes. As SNC's corporate team, we provide the company and its business areas with strategic direction and business support spanning executive management, finance and accounting, operations, human resources, legal, IT, information security, facilities, marketing, and communications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant payroll and payroll tax experience.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, compliance requirements and labor laws.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll procedures, multi-state payroll process, and payroll tax obligations.
  • Experience calculating employee and employer tax amounts, and determining state corporate income tax nexus for remote workers.
  • Proficient with most standard business software applications, primarily Microsoft Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) certification.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with Human Resources Information Management (HRIM) systems and Deltek CostPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly express thoughts and ideas through documentation, and interact with both internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations by monitoring and implementing changes in payroll tax laws.
  • Collect, review, and analyze payroll information to prepare and file federal, state, and local withholding and unemployment tax returns.
  • Reconcile payroll system reports to quarterly and annual tax filings (e.g., 941s, W-2s, and state filings).
  • Manage and maintain payroll tax setups within payroll systems and coordinate with tax vendors.
  • Perform internal audits of payroll tax setups and resolve discrepancies.
  • Research and resolve various types of tax notices.
  • Reconcile the general ledger for tax payments.
  • Complete required state quarterly multiple worksite reporting and other regulatory filings.
  • Design, document and review payroll tax processing procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to prevent recurring issues and streamline operations.
  • Respond to employee inquires related to pay and taxes.
  • Maintain payroll systems for new jurisdictions, including tax registrations and setup.
  • Respond to payroll tax-related inquiries from employees, managers, and external agencies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and insights.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior payroll staff on payroll tax matters.
