About The Position

The Senior Payroll Manager plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across a complex, multi-entity healthcare organization. This role partners closely with Accounting, HR, and Finance and serves as a subject-matter expert for Workday Payroll, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-entity and multi-state payroll
  • Strong hands-on experience with Workday Payroll required
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with general ledger systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality

  • Healthcare industry experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing for 26+ legal entities across multiple states
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of hourly, salaried, and off-cycle payrolls
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage, tax, and reporting requirements
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues and corrections
  • Manage payroll operations within Workday Payroll, including configuration, audits, and testing
  • Partner with HR to ensure data integrity across Workday Payroll, Time & Attendance, and employee records
  • Lead payroll-related system enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives
  • Perform regular payroll related audits
  • Record payroll activity in the general ledger and reconcile payroll-related accounts
  • Manage labor cost allocations and support month-end close activities
  • Partner with Accounting on accruals, reconciliations, and wage and salary variance analysis
  • Support internal and external audits, including payroll and 401(k)
  • Oversee payroll-related benefits processing
  • Support annual compliance testing and required retirement plan reporting
  • Lead, mentor, and develop payroll staff, as applicable
  • Provide high-level customer service to leaders and employees regarding payroll matters
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Legal, and Operations on policy and regulatory changes
  • Evaluate and streamline payroll processes and internal controls
  • Develop, maintain, and document payroll procedures and best practices
