About The Position

This role requires a U.S. Citizen capable of passing a Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) / Medium-Risk federal agency security clearance. The position offers a hybrid work environment with 80% remote work, requiring the candidate to live within 2 hours of a government facility. The core responsibilities involve database administration and operations for PostgreSQL and Oracle environments across development, test, staging, and production systems. This includes installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance of database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure optimal performance and reliability. A key aspect of the role is monitoring and tuning database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve throughput and response times. The position also focuses on designing and managing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, implementing robust backup and recovery strategies, and conducting regular disaster recovery tests. Security and compliance are critical, involving the implementation of database security policies, access control management, and ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory standards. This includes applying patches, performing vulnerability assessments, and supporting audits. Collaboration with developers, architects, and application teams is essential for designing efficient database schemas, queries, indexes, and stored procedures, as well as designing and implementing robust data warehouse solutions. Automation of administrative tasks using scripting languages and infrastructure-as-code tools is also a significant part of the role. The DBA will implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting solutions, provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database incidents, and participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation and planned maintenance activities. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager for monitoring, managing, and optimizing Autonomous Database (ADB) environments is required.

Requirements

U.S. Citizen
Able to pass Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) / Medium-Risk federal agency security clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of hands-on experience as a production DBA supporting large-scale PostgreSQL and Oracle environments.
Strong experience with database installation, configuration, patching, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Expertise with replication, clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
Strong skills in SQL and PL/pgSQL/PL/SQL, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
Proficiency with database monitoring and automation tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager).
Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and operational tasks.
Familiarity with multiple RDMS products in addition to Oracle’s on premise and cloud services to include: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL ServerMongoDB, or Oracle Database Engineering.

Nice To Haves

Experience with database migrations, cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure Database, Oracle Cloud), or hybrid environments.
Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or PostgreSQL Professional Certification are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments across development, test, staging, and production systems.
Manage database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Monitor and tune database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve throughput and response times.
Design and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, Data Guard, streaming replication, and failover strategies.
Implement and manage robust backup, recovery, and retention policies using tools such as RMAN (Oracle) and pgBackRest or similar solutions (PostgreSQL).
Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and document procedures.
Implement database security policies, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Apply patches, perform vulnerability assessments, and support audits by providing required database evidence and documentation.
Collaborate with developers, architects, and application teams to design efficient database schemas, queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
Design and implement robust data warehouse solutions, leveraging best practices for schema design, partitioning, and optimized query performance.
Conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and query optimization to improve application performance.
Automate administrative tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools.
Implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database incidents, including performance degradation and outages.
Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation and planned maintenance activities.
Install and use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor, manage, and optimize Autonomous Database (ADB) environments, ensuring comprehensive performance analysis, alerting, and reporting.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop ETL pipelines, data governance strategies, and reporting solutions within the OCI ecosystem.
Monitor, tune, and troubleshoot environments, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues to maintain high system health.
Document configurations, procedures, and best practices for ADB management, security policies, and migration strategies.
