The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. About the Role Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Sr. Network Systems Engineer to join our COMSEC team within the Core Systems and Components group. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, developing, and verifying FPGA firmware for secure communications systems. You will work closely with our Electrical Hardware Design and Systems Engineering teams to deliver robust, high-performance solutions in support of Blue Origin's mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA firmware development
  • Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog/SystemVerilog
  • Experience with FPGA toolchains (Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of digital design principles, timing constraints, and verification methodologies
  • Working knowledge of AXI bus implementations
  • Experience working with hardware design teams and interpreting schematics
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Active Top Secret security clearance strongly preferred
  • Experience in COMSEC, cryptographic systems, or secure communications
  • Exposure to zero-trust security architecture principles and implementation
  • Familiarity with high-speed serial interfaces (PCIe, SpaceWire, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Experience with DO-254 or other hardware development assurance standards
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and hardware/firmware co-design

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, simulate, and verify FPGA firmware for COMSEC applications
  • Collaborate closely with circuit designers and embedded developers throughout the full development lifecycle
  • Define and document firmware architecture, requirements, and interfaces
  • Perform FPGA synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis
  • Support hardware bring-up, integration, and testing activities
  • Troubleshoot and debug firmware issues in lab and field environments
  • Contribute to design reviews and technical documentation
