About The Position

This Sr Mobile Inspector role involves conducting expert-level vehicle inspections at dealer/client lots. The inspector is responsible for safely locating, starting, moving, inspecting, and returning vehicles, verifying vehicle identification, and accurately entering vehicle information into the inspection system, including VIN, mileage, and sub-series. Key responsibilities include documenting vehicle equipment, options, and conditions of both the exterior (tires, frame, glass, panels, mechanical components) and interior (seats, dashboard, options). The position also requires performing basic mechanical checks on powertrain, drivetrain, and electrical components, and assisting lower-level mobile inspectors with more complex inspections and client relationships. The Sr Mobile Inspector will prepare daily activity reports, adapt to changes in daily appointments for efficiency, and develop strong client knowledge within their territory. They will collaborate with partners to maintain client engagement with Manheim mobile inspections through proactive updates and leverage data to maximize the volume of units inspected. This role acts as a brand ambassador for Cox Automotive, providing a premier client experience by regularly interfacing with core clients and ensuring satisfaction. The inspector will function as a solid team player, working closely with the Wholesale Specialist team, peers, and other Manheim workgroups and auctions. Utilization of SalesForce.com for reporting, lead input, and customer performance reviews is required, along with an understanding of NAAA Frame/Structure Damage Policy. The role operates in a continuous improvement/Lean environment, encouraging a lean culture, and requires maintaining production expectations set by leadership. A visible commitment to safety, adherence to all safety and health procedures, and active participation in Safety Excellence activities are essential. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field OR any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience OR 7 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Must be detail orientated.
  • Motivated to work independently with remote supervision.
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction is required.
  • Ability to lift and hold at least 30 lbs. at waist level for an extended period.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to crouch, bend, and kneel to look at side or underneath car.
  • Strength to lift hood or trunk.
  • Bend while performing audits.
  • Reach inside or underneath vehicle.
  • Near vision abilities required to find dings and scratches, paint work, hail damage, frame/unibody, other exterior damage and Interior damage.
  • Able to identify exterior or interior colors.
  • Ability to deal with different lighting (i.e. exterior and interior lighting, natural and artificial light).
  • Requires physical ability and mental acuity to execute the duties of the position successfully within required timeframes to meet business requirements.
  • Candidates must possess one of two licenses at time of hire: The New York State DMV Body Damage Estimator License (requires 12 months of Auto Body Estimating experience, valid NYS Driver’s license in good standing) OR The NY State Independent Auto Damage & Theft Adjuster’s License (requires proficiency in Regulation 64, state Insurance Exam, character background check, and fingerprint card submission).
  • Clear a pre-employment drug test (Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre-employment drug test for marijuana for this position; however, it is a drug-free workplace).
  • Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship.
  • No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in navigating handheld and other documentation devices preferred.
  • Body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge helpful.
  • Familiarity with unibody and full-frame helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough vehicle inspection at an expert level.

  • Verify vehicle identification and enter accurate vehicle information into the inspection system to correct VIN, mileage, and sub series.
  • Inspect vehicle equipment and options, documenting results including damage, missing or inoperable items.
  • Inspect and record vehicle exterior condition, including but not limited to tires, frame, glass, panels, and mechanical components.
  • Inspect and record the vehicle interior condition, including but not limited to seats, dashboard, and options.
  • Perform basic mechanical checks on vehicles including powertrain, drivetrain, and electrical components.
  • Will assist lower-level mobile inspectors to navigate more complex inspections and client relationships.
  • Prepare and provide daily activity reports for management.
  • Be able to pivot and adapt to changes in daily appointments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of each dealer visit.
  • Develop strong knowledge of clients in territory and work together with partners to keep them active with Manheim mobile inspections through regular, pro-active updates on lot engagement.
  • Receive data and insight from partners and leverage to maximize volume of units inspected on dealer lots.
  • Represent Cox Automotive as a brand ambassador to provide premier client experience by interfacing regularly core clients and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Functions as a solid team player and works closely with the Wholesale Specialist team, peers, other Manheim workgroups and auctions.
